Help us save Mohammed from the hell that has become Egypt. Gay Palestinian is trapped in Cairo, we are working on getting him out. Enough is enough.
He's gay, he's Palestinian, he's a talented artist, he's HIV positive, and he's trapped in Egypt, a country where LGBT people are subject to random arrest and mass imprisonment. As a gay "pos" man and as a Palestinian, he could not be more vulnerable. We can bring him to safety: there's an application in the works for him to go to Canada as a gay refugee. What we need is your financial support to
raise the $14,000 Canadian dollars that is required of each refugee coming to Canada on a private sponsorship. The threat is real, and Mohammed has seen it first hand. In 2013, when he escaped to Cairo, the police arrested him arbitrarily and without charges. He spent a week in jail, where the filth, the abuse, both physical and verbal, brought him to the verge of a breakdown. When they let him out, the police said that if they found him “walking like a faggot” in downtown Cairo, they would arrest him again. In mid-October 2017, he was assaulted by four thugs at a barbershop, who objected to the earring he was wearing. They broke his nose and sent him to the hospital, where he required surgery.
