What should have been an ordinary day turned into a nightmare for the family of Blessing Ekah. The young pregnant woman, a native of Esu in Cameroon's North West Region, lost her life on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, when the wall of her home collapsed following torrential rains that battered Mbende Quarter in Limbe, Fako Division.

According to local reports, the collapse trapped several occupants beneath the rubble.

Blessing Ekah and her unborn child did not survive.

As her family mourns a double tragedy, search and rescue operations are continuing at the scene raising concerns that the death toll could increase.

Across the neighborhood, residents remain in shock, recounting how the intense rainfall turned streets into raging streams and weakened several homes.

The tragedy is yet another reminder of the vulnerability of many families to the heavy rains that frequently affect Limbe.

That is the heartbreaking story family and friends say led to the death of Jonah Chiagozie Nwatu, an Enugu indigene who reportedly died from cardiac arrest in Minna.

According to those close to him, Jonah spent more than three agonizing hours alone in his house during the medical emergency. They claim he had over 8GB of active MTN data, yet could neither access WhatsApp nor send a message asking for help.

His second phone, which reportedly contained his Airtel SIM and main phone number, had run out of battery. With no electricity available to charge it, they say he was completely cut off from the outside world.

Family members believe that if he had been able to make just one call or send one message, help might have arrived in time to save his life.

Adding to the emotion is a photograph now circulating online, showing Jonah and his wife, Munachi, smiling together at a coronation ceremony in Enugu—an image that has since become a painful reminder of happier moments before tragedy struck.

The incident has sparked outrage online, with an associate of the deceased publicly criticizing the quality of MTN Nigeria's mobile data service. The associate alleged that subscribers often pay for data they struggle to use and argued that reliable internet should not be limited to expensive broadband options while affordable mobile users continue to experience poor service.

The post also claimed an MTN representative reached out privately, but the invitation was declined, with the writer insisting that any response should come through a public explanation addressing customers' concerns. Among the demands are improved network reliability, greater transparency over data usage, and compensation for customers who believe they have been affected by poor service.
