You probably don’t know this about retinoids…
We’ve all said it “don’t use your retinoid in the day, it’ll make your skin more sensitive to UV.” And that’s true. But here’s the thing - that sensitivity happens regardless of when you apply it. Retinoids increase cell turnover and thin the stratum corneum whether you put them on at 8am or 10pm. So that’s never actually been the reason for the night-only rule.
The real reason? UVA rays physically degrade the retinoid molecule. We’re talking some formulas losing over 80% of their potency within hours of light exposure. And UVA doesn’t need direct sunlight - it comes through windows, it’s present on cloudy days, it’s there whether your client thinks they’re “in the sun” or not.
So if your client is applying their retinoid in the morning and wondering why they’re not seeing results - this is why.
This is the kind of detail that changes the way you advise clients. And it’s exactly the level of depth I’m putting into the Practitioner Platform.

WE DID THIS 🥹
This client’s skin actually got worse before it got better but we trusted the process.
