Will tattoo removal damage my skin?

It’s completely understandable to worry about what’s happening underneath the surface, especially when you see the tattoo change, fade, blister or crust during the removal process. But here’s what’s actually happening. 👇

Modern tattoo removal lasers are designed to target the pigment within the tattoo, breaking the ink down into much smaller particles. Your body then does the clever bit.

Over the weeks following treatment, your immune system gradually processes and clears those fragmented particles, which is why the tattoo becomes lighter and lighter over time.

And this is also why tattoo removal is a process, not a one-session treatment.

Tattoo ink sits within layers of the skin and cannot safely be broken down all at once. Your skin needs time to recover between sessions and your body needs time to clear the fragmented pigment.

Some redness, swelling, tenderness, blistering or crusting can be a normal part of the healing response following treatment. It doesn’t automatically mean your skin has been “ruined” by the laser.
