Three years ago, I posted this photo on Snapchat without having a clue what was ahead of me.

Back then, I was working 9–5 in my old salon on an apprentice wage, then heading straight to a dessert shop to work as a delivery driver until 12 or 1am. I had to work two jobs just to afford to get by.

I had no motivation. I drove a 2005 Kia Picanto that was literally corroding underneath, and I dreaded going to work every day. I’d completely fallen out of love with hairdressing, and mentally I was in one of the darkest places I’d ever been. I relied on medication to help manage my anxiety and low moods, and at one point I convinced myself I didn’t need it anymore and stopped taking it. Looking back, I can see just how lost I really was.

Fast forward three years…

I’m now self-employed in a busy town centre salon doing the job I once thought I’d never love again. I have the most amazing clients, I’m currently fully booked until the end of September, and my hair extension transformations have grown into something I never imagined. The confidence I have in my work today is something I had completely lost back then.

This isn’t to brag. It’s to remind anyone who’s in the position I was that life can change more than you ever think it can. The long days, the tears, the self-doubt, the sacrifices… they were all building the life I have now.

Three years ago, I was just surviving.

Today, I’m genuinely living the life I used to dream about, and I’ll never take that for granted 🐆🖤
