"I've got sciatica." We hear this a lot. But pain travelling down the leg isn't always sciatica.

A patient recently came in with pain running from the buttock into the thigh. It could have been irritation of the sciatic nerve coming from the lower back, or it could have been a problem with the muscles around the hip.

Through a detailed assessment, including nerve tests and movements of both the back and the hip, we were able to pinpoint the true source of the symptoms.

The result? A treatment plan aimed at the actual cause, not just the area that was painful.

If you suspect you have sciatica, drop us a message.

True or False? You should stop exercising completely if you're in pain.

❌ False.

This is a tricky one to gauge, but rest isn't always the answer.

While some injuries do need you to spend time off your feet, complete rest is often not the answer. In many cases, the right type and amount of movement can actually help reduce pain, maintain strength and speed up recovery.

The key is finding the level of activity that's appropriate for your condition. Too much can aggravate symptoms. Too little can leave joints stiffer, muscles weaker and recovery taking longer than it needs to.

If you're unsure whether you should be exercising with your injury, get in touch.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is around pain. Pain doesn't always mean you've damaged something.

Let's say you've bent down to pick something up. Your back "goes" and the pain is intense. Naturally, you assume you've done some serious damage.

But really, that's probably not the case.

Pain is your body's alarm system. Sometimes that alarm is responding to an injury. Sometimes it's responding to irritation, sensitivity, or even a muscle that's gone into spasm.

A thorough assessment helps us understand what's really happening so we can guide you towards the right treatment and just as importantly, deliver the good news that things might not be as serious as they first feel 😊

Feeling pain in your shoulder? 🤔

A patient recently came in with pain lifting their arm above shoulder height. They were convinced they'd torn their rotator cuff.

But shoulder pain isn't always that simple. After testing the strength of the rotator cuff, checking neck movement, and seeing how certain positions changed the symptoms, it became clear the pain was actually being referred from the neck.

Same symptoms, completely different cause.

That's why weit's importand not to jump straight to treatment and take the time to work out what's really going on first.

If you're struggling with your shoulder, drop us a message.

Your physio appointment helps someone else get back on their feet, too 🤝

At OH One Physiotherapy, we’re a Community Interest Company. That means we reinvest part of our clinic capacity back into the local community.

Through our Community Access scheme, we offer a small number of reduced-rate appointments for:

• Young people (aged 12–17) with sports injuries, growth-related pain or mobility issues
• Individuals recently unemployed (under 6 months) whose pain or injury is affecting their return to work

These are full physiotherapy sessions with a proper assessment, personalised plan, and professional follow-up. They’re not externally funded... They’re funded by us!

We believe early support prevents bigger problems later. And we're big believers that stronger health creates stronger communities.

If you think you may be eligible, send us a message and we’ll guide you through the next steps.

And if you’re booking privately - thank you. You’re helping make this possible. 💙

5 Sessions for the Price of 4 🎉

We don't just want to help you feel better for a day or two. We want to help you recover properly. That's why we offer 5 physiotherapy sessions for the price of 4.

That means that you pay just £39.20 per session instead of £49

The best results often come from being able to assess, treat, review your progress, adapt your plan, and support you all the way back to doing what you love.

From your very first appointment, we'll:
• Talk through your symptoms, lifestyle and medical history.
• Carry out a thorough physical assessment to identify the root cause of your pain or injury.
• Explain exactly what we've found in clear, straightforward language.
• Create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your goals and recovery.

We also understand that cost can sometimes be a barrier to completing treatment. That's why we've introduced our treatment bundle, to make it easier and more affordable to commit to your recovery.

Get in touch to book your initial assessment and ask about our 5 for 4 treatment bundle.

One thing we hear all the time is, "I probably should have come sooner."

A lot of people wait weeks or even months before booking an appointment because they hope the problem will settle on its own. Sometimes it does. But when pain keeps coming back, starts affecting your sleep, stops you enjoying activities or simply isn't improving, it's worth getting it looked at.

Early assessment doesn't necessarily mean you'll need lots of treatment. Sometimes all you need is reassurance, a clear diagnosis and the right advice to stop the problem becoming something more persistent.

If something has been niggling away for longer than you'd hoped, don't keep putting it off. Drop us a message and let's get you moving again.

☀️ Summer is brilliant for getting active... but don't let an injury spoil it.

As the days get longer, many of us naturally spend more time outdoors. Whether it's running, cycling, hiking, gardening, playing sport or simply enjoying longer walks, our activity levels often increase dramatically at this time of year.

That's fantastic for both our physical and mental wellbeing. But it's also why we see a noticeable rise in muscle and joint injuries over the summer.

Some of the most common include:
🌿 Knee pain from suddenly increasing activity
🌿 Lower back pain after hours of gardening or DIY
🌿 Shoulder pain from swimming, tennis or lifting
🌿 Tennis elbow (which isn't just caused by tennis!)
🌿 Ankle sprains on trails, parks and festivals
🌿 Calf strains when returning to running or football
🌿 Heat-related muscle cramps from exercising in hot weather

The good news is many of these injuries are preventable.

💙 Our top summer tips:
1. Increase your activity gradually rather than doing everything at once.
2. Warm up before exercise and take a few minutes to cool down afterwards.
3. Stay hydrated, you'll often be dehydrated before you feel thirsty.
4. Wear supportive footwear, especially on uneven ground.
5. Listen to your body. Pain that persists, worsens or is accompanied by swelling shouldn't be ignored.

If something doesn't feel quite right, getting it assessed early. Drop us a message to get started.
