I have a few tools I use throughout my treatments that compliment what my hands do. It's not often I use all of them in one session, but today was one of those days.

With my regular clients I learn what works for them most of the time, but even this changes depending on the area I'm working on and how they're feeling that day. Communication is key here and I always make sure my clients are happy with any approach I take... Sometimes people just want a nice massage with no stones, needles or cups!

Yesterday was a first for me - I spent the day at a karate competition in Ringwood. This was not in a professional capacity, but to support my two children in their first blast at competing for MB Martial Arts Academy.

I always enjoy watching them at training but this was just incredible: the amount of talent these children and adults have is on another level. The physical and mental control needed to perform in the katas (routines) and kumite (fights) is exceptional; every move is made with intent, focus, balance and a very raw emotion. (The barefoot fanatic in me also wondered how much harder that control would be if they had to wear shoes - it would be interesting to find out.)

I love that my kids have found something they enjoy and that's so good for them in every way. More proof that you need to get uncomfortable to grow, and they certainly did that yesterday. They have a very inspirational cousin (pictured below with them) and auntie to look up to in their karate journeys, and are so lucky to have the support of Mike and everyone at the club. I would totally recommend MB Martial Arts Academy to anyone who's interested in starting karate - check out their FB page.

Well done to everyone who took part.

For upper-body tension, particularly (but not limited to) the often-neglected arms and hands, seated massage can be a really good option. Some of my older clients prefer this position but it can work for anyone who finds lying down uncomfortable.

Contact me on 07890 898181 or you can book online via my website, just mention in the notes section that you'd like a seated massage.

As well as working from my home treatment room in Moordown, I also treat staff in the LV offices in Westbourne and the Carnival UK offices in Southampton.

Having access to any well-being services at work is so important and, as you can see, hugely beneficial.

I do this every day, so it's normal for me, but I appreciate that having a massage is often new territory and can bring uncertainty. Here is a little bit about what I do. There is plenty more to say but it's a start. Ask me anything (in the sphere of massage therapy!) and I'll do my best to help.

I wanted to share this as it's such an important message. It's so easy, and understandable, to put life on hold while you wait for the day you don't wake up in pain. I've done it, and still do it to a certain extent, so needed this reminder that pain doesn't always mean damage.

It’s not only moles – how SCARS can raise your risk of skin cancer years later | Daily Mail 04/07/2026

This story was recently in the news so I wanted to share it with anyone who has a scar. Sun exposure on scars, both new ones and old ones, significantly increases the risk of skin cancer because the scar tissue has no level or natural protection against UV rays.

It’s not only moles – how SCARS can raise your risk of skin cancer years later | Daily Mail WAKING up to find a scar he’d had above his eyebrow for 53 years had opened up, TV presenter Mike Parry presumed he had caught it on something. In fact, the ‘cut’ was the first sign of a tumour – having a scar is now known to raise your risk of skin...
