Before INIPI, there was a whole life that shaped the woman behind it. 🙏🏽
I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and my journey to becoming a business owner in England was anything but a straight line.😅
There were difficult beginnings. Loss, family struggles, uncertainty and times when I genuinely didn’t know what life was going to look like for me.🤔
But there was also strength.💪🏾
I learned very young how to keep going. How to adapt. How to start again. And how sometimes the life you eventually build looks nothing like the life you imagined when you were younger.🤎
Years later, I found myself here in England, building a life, raising a family and eventually creating something of my own.👌🏽
INIPI didn’t come from a perfect business plan or a perfectly mapped-out life.
It came from everything that happened before it.✌🏽
The good.
The difficult.
The unexpected.😳
And perhaps that’s why it means so much to me.🤎
Over the next few Mondays, I’m going to share a little more of that story — not just the business, but the woman behind it.
Because before the boutique, there was me. 🖤

Happy Sunday 🤎
Our families carried more than their names.
They carried stories, sacrifice, survival and hope.
And somehow, they still found room for joy.
When I think about Black family and Black culture, I think about everything that was passed down without ever being written in a book.🙌🏾
The way we gathered.
The way we fed each other.
The music that filled our homes.
The laughter that could take over a room.
The stories told again and again.
The elders who held families together.
The strength to keep going, even when life gave them every reason not to. 🙏🏽
There is so much of our history that begins with struggle. But I never want struggle to be the only story we tell about ourselves.
Because there was joy too.
There was love. Humour. Style. Music. Food. Faith. Friendship. Celebration. Family. 🤎
There were people determined to make something better for the generation coming behind them.
And perhaps that is something that reaches far beyond race or culture.
Most of us are standing on something somebody before us built.💪🏾
A sacrifice we didn’t see.
A chance they never had.
A lesson they learned the hard way.
A little more freedom than the generation before.
We don’t get to choose everything we inherit.
But we do get to choose what we carry forward. 🙏🏽
So today I’m thinking about those who came before us, those sitting beside us, and those who will come after us.
Keep the stories.
Keep the laughter.
Keep the traditions that matter.
And make sure the next generation knows where they came from. 🤎
