Last week at 36, I found out I’m autistic.

And today, I was diagnosed with ADHD too.

I don’t think I’ve fully processed either of those sentences yet.

For most of my life I’ve just thought this was… me.

The person who can be incredibly focused on something she loves, but completely unable to start something seemingly simple.

Who can spend hours talking to clients and doing hair, then come home with absolutely nothing left.

Who needs things written down to properly take them in.

Who can look completely fine and capable on the outside while internally feeling overwhelmed.

Who sometimes disappears, goes quiet or takes a little longer to reply because life has just become a bit too loud.

Apparently there are reasons some of those things have always felt harder for me.

I’m not suddenly a different person because I have two diagnoses. I’m still me.

But I think I’m starting to understand myself a little better.

And maybe you’ll notice some little changes around here too.

I want Lux to be somewhere that works for my brain, rather than somewhere I have to constantly push myself to fit.

And I want that for the people who sit in my chair too.

So if you don’t feel like talking - don’t.

Bring your headphones. Read your book. Close your eyes. Tell me exactly what you need. Ask me to explain something again.

There is absolutely no pressure to perform socially in my chair.

I’m still figuring out what being autistic + ADHD means for me, and I’m definitely not about to turn into an educational account 😂

But I think I might share a little more of the real life behind the hair.

Because at 36, it turns out I’m still getting to know myself too. 🤍

Sometimes a haircut is so much more than a haircut. 🤍

Yesterday this lovely client made the incredible decision to donate 15 inches of her hair to The Little Princess Trust, helping provide real-hair wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair.

In total we removed 17 inches, creating a fresh new look while knowing her hair will go on to make a difference to someone else.

Watching someone leave feeling confident is always special, but knowing this haircut could help another child smile makes it even more meaningful.
