Meet Amelia👋🏼
The newest face joining us here at Blemish Clinic and right at the very beginning of what we know is going to be an exciting journey!
Amelia is joining the team as our new Apprentice Aesthetician, while undertaking a four-year course that will allow her to learn, develop and build her skills alongside her studies.
She might only be at the start, but her passion for the industry, eagerness to learn and willingness to get stuck in have already made it very clear that she’s going to be a brilliant addition to Blemish🥹
With four years of learning ahead of her plus the opportunity to work alongside and learn from the experienced team here at the clinic, we can’t wait to watch her grow.
Welcome to Blemish, Amelia!💙
We’re not here just to treat you as much as possible✖️
Here, Julie tells you 3 lifestyle choice you can make which can seriously damage your skin…
Healthy skin isn’t created in the treatment room alone! Your sun exposure, smoking, diet and wider lifestyle will all influence your skin health which is why at Blemish, we’re interested in the whole picture, not simply what treatment we can offer you next🙌🏽
Sometimes the most valuable advice we can give you has nothing to do with a procedure or another product.
We want to help you achieve healthier skin in the healthiest, most sustainable way possible - combining professional treatment where appropriate with education, prevention and the everyday choices that support your skin long-term.
Treatment is only one piece of the puzzle and we’ll always be honest about that💙

If you know Blemish, you probably know Jan👋🏽
But if you’re new here, allow us to properly introduce the woman behind the clinic…
Jan Birch is Blemish Clinic’s owner, Consultant Dermatology Nurse and Aesthetic Nurse, with more than 20 years of experience in aesthetic medicine and an extensive career spanning dermatology, clinical research and aesthetics.
Her medical research into dermatological skin conditions and skin cancers has been published in clinical papers, while her aesthetic work has featured in European and industry journals, national publications and on television🤩
Jan’s career has also taken her around the world, working alongside and learning from some of the most respected dermatologists and cosmetic doctors in the industry - these experiences helped shape the clinic she wanted to create herself.
So, in 2004, Blemish Clinic was born🧬
More than two decades later, Jan still describes herself as someone who ’never stands still.’ She continues to train, research and develop her understanding of anatomy, skin, products and emerging techniques so the care she offers continues to evolve too.
Despite everything she knows, one thing has always remained at the heart of Jan’s work: safety, efficacy and doing what is genuinely right for the patient, ALWAYS.
If you’ve been treated by Jan, you’ll know exactly what we mean💙

The lip treatment we’re currently OBSESSED with💋
Want softer, smoother, more hydrated lips with a little extra plumpness WITHOUT wanting lip filler? Meet SkinFill BACIO.
This next-generation lip booster combines 2% non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid with vitamin B12 to deeply hydrate and revitalise the lips while improving their overall texture and appearance🙌🏽
BACIO can help to improve dryness, gently enhance natural fullness, smooth the appearance of fine lines on and around the lips and leave the entire lip area looking fresher and more defined. It can be particularly lovely for lips that have started to feel thinner or drier with age.
It uses non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid so it isn't about creating the structure or projection we'd typically associate with traditional dermal filler. Instead, it’s about improving the quality and hydration of the lips themselves💧
Basically… if you’ve ever said “I want something done to my lips but I don’t want them to look done” then this is treatment we’ll definitely be talking to you about!

Lumpy, bumpy skin? Let’s talk about it🧬
If your skin is feeling bumpy, uneven or more textured than usual, one possible reason is a build-up of cells at the skin’s surface and this is where the right exfoliation can make a real difference!
The place we see most patients going wrong here is presuming that more exfoliation is the answer😬…
Using products that are too harsh, combining the wrong active ingredients or exfoliating too frequently can leave your skin irritated and compromise your skin barrier. The key is finding the right products, at the right strength, for your individual skin.
You don’t have to figure that out yourself by the way💙
Our skin experts can assess your skin and recommend a routine that actually makes sense for what it needs, with an incredible range of professional and medical-grade skincare available in clinic. So, before buying another exfoliating product, come and talk to us. Your skin (and probably your bank account) will thank you😂

Want a lift without changing your face?💭
If you’re beginning to notice skin laxity, loss of firmness or changes to the contours of your face but you don’t want to look overfilled or dramatically different, PCL thread treatment could be something worth exploring.
This result was achieved using PCL lifting threads alongside PCL collagen stimulation threads from Ultra V - giving an immediate structural lift while also stimulating collagen production over time to support firmness, elasticity and overall skin quality🧬
Thread treatments aren’t right for everyone and the type, number and placement of threads can look completely different from one patient to the next which is exactly why your consultation matters!
We’ll assess your skin, facial anatomy, degree of laxity and what you’d actually like to improve before discussing whether PCL threads are the right option for you and what we could realistically achieve.
You don’t need to know which treatment you need before you come through our doors… that’s our job so if you’ve been noticing changes in your face and wondering what your options are, book a consultation with our medical team via the link in our bio💙

Your skincare routine should not stay the same all year round🙌🏽
As the seasons change, so does your skin. Cooler temperatures, central heating and lower humidity can all affect your skin barrier and hydration levels so the routine that worked perfectly throughout summer might not be what your skin needs now.
A few things we recommend thinking about as we move into Autumn:
🍂Switch to a gentler cleanser if your skin is starting to feel tight or dry after cleansing.
🍂Increase hydration by introducing certain ingredients and maybe even consider a richer moisturiser if your skin needs it.
🍂Be mindful of your actives! If your skin becomes more sensitive as the weather changes, using more acids or retinoids isn’t necessarily the answer. Sometimes your barrier needs support instead.
🍂Keep wearing your SPF. UVA is present year-round, even when it’s cloudy and considerably less sunny outside.
🍂Pay attention to how your skin feels. Tightness, flaking, stinging or increased sensitivity can all be signs that your routine needs adjusting.
Small changes now can help prevent dryness and irritation as we head into the colder months, while creating a stronger foundation for healthy skin all winter long and remember: don’t change products just because the calendar says Autumn… change them because your skin is telling you it needs something different.
If you’re unsure what that looks like for you, we can help build a routine tailored to your skin and its needs. Tap the link in our bio to book a consultation🧡
This is where LESS matters💉
When treating around the eyes with toxin, more product doesn’t necessarily mean a better result and Jan explains exactly why…
Over-treating the orbicularis oculi can affect the natural movement that helps support lymphatic drainage around the eye area. For patients who are already prone to lymphatic issues or under-eye puffiness, this can potentially make bags or swelling appear more noticeable.
It’s why Jan considers far more than simply where the lines are before injecting. Your anatomy, age, muscle movement, existing under-eye concerns and how your individual face functions all influence how and whether at all an area should be treated🙌🏽
In particular as we get older, sometimes less really is more.

A different approach to cyst removal👩🏽⚕️
This patient came to us with a large cyst on the forehead - an area where careful surgical planning is particularly important!
The original surgical plan would have involved an O-to-Z flap, a technique used to close the wound following removal.
However, after assessing the cyst and its location, Jan was able to take a much less invasive approach.
Using what we call ’The Blemish Micro Technique,’ Jan carefully subcised and removed the cyst through a much smaller entry point, avoiding the need for the larger planned incision and helping to limit the risk of nerve damage and minimise scarring.
The second image shows the area just two weeks after surgery, with no nerve problems following the procedure👏🏽
This is exactly why minor surgery isn’t simply about removing something. It’s about considering the location, anatomy, healing and final outcome and choosing the most appropriate technique for the individual patient💙

Meet Neauvia Stimulate❤️
This is one of our favourite options for patients looking for a more regenerative approach to facial rejuvenation.
Stimulate combines hyaluronic acid with 1% Calcium Hydroxyapatite (CaHA), giving us the ability to restore and support where appropriate while also encouraging collagen stimulation within the treated tissues.
It’s for patients beginning to notice changes such as loss of facial support, changes in contour or signs of ageing but who still want their results to look considered, balanced and completely them🙌🏽
Something we particularly love is how there’s a formulation specifically designed for men, too! Neauvia Stimulate Man allows treatment to be tailored with male facial aesthetics and structure in mind💉
