🩺 A Message from Your Wellness Nurse: The Hidden Risks of Self-Supplementing 🩸

In my line of work, I see so many people taking charge of their health with vitamins, peptides, and wellness trends. While being proactive is fantastic, we need to have a serious conversation about safety, regulation, and self-monitoring. As a nurse, I always say: Aesthetics mean nothing if you end up in a hospital bed.

If you are supplementing anything outside of your GP’s control, you must take full responsibility for your internal health. Here is what you need to know to stay truly safe:

❌ The "Small Print" Danger unlike FDA/NHS prescribed drugs, supplements and peptides do not come with strict warning labels or pharmacist counseling.

Many do not print critical contraindications on the bottle:

Thyroid Issues: Supplements like biotin can skew thyroid lab results, and Ashwagandha can unpredictably alter hormone levels.

Cancer Risks: Cellular boosters like NAD or NMN can speed up cell proliferation. Anyone with a history of cancer, active cancer, or precancerous cells should avoid them entirely.

The Prescription Contrast: Think about blood pressure meds or statins. Your doctor and pharmacist explicitly warn you to avoid things like grapefruit juice because it's highly regulated. Supplements simply don't have that level of instruction.

💪 Anabolics, TRT, and Fat Burners:
Even if you don't compete, if you are using testosterone, anabolics, or fat burners, you cannot guess what is happening under the hood. You must be honest with your GP. If they don't know what you are taking, they cannot protect your organs.📋

My Professional Recommendations for Safe Optimization:

Get Routine Blood Work: Have your blood markers checked at least twice a year to monitor liver, kidney, and vital organ function. If you choose to supplement independently, you must invest in tracking your own internal safety.

Verify Your Source: The market is flooded with counterfeit and fake products. Only use supplements that are third-party tested for purity and dosage. Be Honest with Your Doctor: Always research how your current medications and supplements interact, and keep your GP fully informed.

Prioritise the Basics: No pill or peptide can out-work a poor diet and dehydration. Proper nutrition and water intake are still your biggest health allies.

Prevention and early detection give you the absolute best chance at long-term health. Be wise, protect your organs, and remember that true wellness starts on the inside.

Drop a comment or message me if you want to know which specific blood markers you should be tracking based on your current routine! 👇

Male 7 point face lift with Hyaluronic acid. Achieved with 8ml in total using cannula. Temples also filled. The patient has been on a weight loss/ body recomposition journey and the fat pads in face have depleted due to this. The result is incredible. We built a plan over 2 months to achieve the final result. Some small tweaks over the coming months with skin boosters to hydrate and brighten.
