TPO BAN – A little bit of reassurance ❤️

With all the recent news outlets discussing the TPO ban, I thought I’d share this to hopefully put a few minds at ease and give you a little more context.

There’s understandably been quite a lot of worry around this, so I wanted to explain it from a nail-tech perspective rather than just sharing another headline.

The concerns around TPO come from toxicological testing, including studies where high-purity TPO was administered orally to rats. The findings showed effects relating to male reproductive function and fertility, which ultimately contributed to TPO being classified as a reproductive toxicant.

Now, I completely understand why that sounds alarming when you see it in the news 😬 but it’s important to remember that this was a laboratory animal study involving oral exposure to the substance itself, rather than the use of a professional gel product on someone's nails.

TPO has historically been used in some professional nail products in relatively low concentrations, and because of the updated safety classification, manufacturers have been working for some time to reformulate their products and move away from TPO.

So although the word “ban” sounds scary, this isn't something that has suddenly happened overnight. The industry has had a period of transition, and many professional brands have already introduced their new TPO-free formulas, which nail techs have been using for some time.

For me, the most important thing is that you don't need to panic about your nail appointments ❤️

I’ll continue to make sure the products I use are compliant, keep up to date with the regulations and, most importantly, put your safety first.
