☀️ A Tan Is Not Healthy. It’s Your Skin Responding to DNA Damage.
Many people think a tan is a sign of health. Scientifically, the opposite is true.
When your skin is exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or sunbeds, the UV rays pe*****te skin cells and damage the DNA inside them. This damage includes the formation of abnormal bonds within DNA (called cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers) and oxidative stress caused by free radicals.
Your body immediately detects this injury and activates a defence mechanism. Skin cells release signals that stimulate melanocytes to produce more melanin – the pigment responsible for a tan.
✨ A tan is your body’s attempt to protect itself from further DNA damage. It is not evidence that your skin has become healthier.
Although our cells have sophisticated DNA repair systems, they are not perfect. Every time your skin is exposed to excessive UV radiation, there’s a chance that some DNA damage won’t be repaired correctly. These permanent mutations can accumulate over time.
This is why repeated tanning increases the risk of:
🧬 Skin cancer, including melanoma
☀️ Premature ageing
📉 Loss of collagen and elastin
🤎 Uneven pigmentation and sun spots
💥 Broken blood vessels
🧓 Wrinkles and sagging skin
The World Health Organization classifies UV radiation from both the sun and sunbeds as a Group 1 carcinogen – the same category as to***co smoke and asbestos.
Your skin remembers every sunburn and every tan.
Protect your DNA by wearing broad-spectrum SPF daily, seeking shade during peak UV hours, wearing protective clothing and avoiding deliberate tanning.
✨ Healthy skin isn’t tanned skin.
Healthy skin is protected skin.
Save this post to remind yourself that prevention is always easier than repair.

✨ Not sure which skincare ingredients you actually need? Save this cheat sheet! ✨
With so many products on the market, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. The truth is, you don’t need a 10-step routine – you just need the right ingredients for your skin concerns.
💧 Dry or dehydrated? → Hyaluronic Acid
🌿 Oily or enlarged pores? → Niacinamide
🍊 Dull skin or pigmentation? → Vitamin C
✨ Breakouts? → Salicylic Acid (BHA)
🌸 Rough texture? → Glycolic Acid (AHA)
🛡️ Damaged skin barrier? → Ceramides
🌙 Fine lines & ageing? → Retinol
🌹 Redness, rosacea or acne marks? → Azelaic Acid
💪 Loss of firmness? → Peptides
Remember, skincare isn’t one-size-fits-all. The best routine is one that’s tailored to your skin.
📍At Cheltenham Skin Clinic, we create personalised treatment plans and skincare routines based on your skin goals—not trends.

✨ Extraction Facials: Clear Skin Starts Here ✨
Struggling with congestion, blackheads, or breakouts? An extraction facial is one of the most effective ways to deeply cleanse your skin and restore a smoother, clearer complexion.
💆♀️ What are extractions?
A professional technique used to safely remove blocked pores (blackheads & whiteheads) without damaging your skin.
🌿 Benefits:
• Instantly clearer, less congested skin
• Reduced breakouts over time
• Smoother texture & refined pores
• Better absorption of your skincare products
⚠️ Why not DIY?
At-home squeezing can lead to scarring, inflammation, and spreading bacteria. Professional extractions are done hygienically and with minimal trauma to the skin.
✨ Perfect for:
• Acne-prone skin
• Oily or congested skin
• Anyone needing a deep reset
Ready for skin that feels clean, fresh, and truly glowing?

✨ WHY CLEANSING AM & PM MATTERS ✨
Cleansing isn’t just about removing makeup… it’s the foundation of healthy, balanced skin. And yes — it matters both morning and night.
🌙 PM cleanse = repair mode
Throughout the day your skin builds up dirt, oil, SPF, pollution & bacteria.
Skipping your evening cleanse? You’re leaving all of that sitting on your skin overnight — leading to congestion, breakouts & dullness.
☀️ AM cleanse = reset + prep
While you sleep, your skin produces oil, sweat & sheds dead skin cells.
A morning cleanse refreshes your skin and creates the perfect base for your skincare (and makeup) to actually work.
🫧 Choosing the right cleanser is essential
Not all cleansers are created equal — using the wrong one can strip, irritate or clog your skin.
✔️ Gel cleansers: great for oily or breakout-prone skin
✔️ Cream cleansers: ideal for dry or sensitive skin
✔️ Gentle, active-based cleansers: target concerns without damaging your barrier
💡 Think of it this way:
No cleanse = your products can’t pe*****te properly = wasted skincare.
🫧 Consistency is key
Cleansing twice daily helps:
✔️ Keep pores clear
✔️ Balance oil production
✔️ Improve skin texture
✔️ Maximise results from your skincare
Your glow starts with clean skin 🤍

MYTH: Botox is skincare
FACT: Botox is a neuromodulator — not a skin treatment
Botox works at the neuromuscular junction to reduce muscle contraction and soften dynamic lines.
It does not improve skin health.
💉 Botox does not:
• Improve skin barrier function
• Treat pigmentation or inflammation
• Improve texture or hydration
✨ Skincare does:
• Support barrier repair
• Improve tone, texture and hydration
• Protect long-term skin health
Botox can be part of a treatment plan — but it will never replace consistent, evidence-based skincare.
Healthy skin first. Enhancements second.
