This afternoon, residents enjoyed a relaxed social gathering in the café area. The session provided a lovely opportunity for residents to spend time together, chat with other residents and staff, and enjoy each other’s company. There was plenty of conversation, laughter and positive interaction throughout the afternoon. As it was a particularly warm day, residents were also provided with plenty of refreshments to help them stay cool and hydrated. It was a lovely, sociable afternoon enjoyed by all.

We spent the afternoon exploring painting in a completely different way, using anything BUT a paintbrush. Residents experimented with sponges, bobbins, sticks, pompoms and even their fingertips to create colourful pieces that encouraged hand dexterity, creativity, and a bit of outside‑the‑box thinking. The slower, tactile nature of the activity was especially valuable for our dementia residents, offering sensory stimulation, gentle motor exercise, and a calm space for self‑expression. It turned into a wonderfully mindful session with plenty of smiles and surprising results.

Yesterday, residents took part in a fun and engaging fairy cake baking activity. Residents were encouraged to get involved with each stage of the baking process, including measuring and mixing the ingredients, spooning the mixture into the cake cases and decorating the finished cakes.
The activity provided an opportunity for residents to reminisce about baking experiences from the past, share stories and enjoy conversations with others. There was lots of laughter and enjoyment throughout the session, with residents taking pride in seeing and tasting the cakes they had made.
The activity encouraged social interaction, reminiscence, sensory stimulation, fine motor skills and independence, while providing residents with a meaningful and enjoyable experience. ❤️

On Friday we welcomed back our good friend Steve Steve talked about Aardman Animations and Nick Park in his visit today. We learned all about the history of the company and where it all started from. Steve told us about how it all began with 'Morph' a plasticine model on Tony Hart art show. Steve treated the residents to slide after slide of information and we had several discussions about 'Wallace and Gromit' and which film was our favourite. A truly wonderful afternoon

Our residents at Astley View have been enjoying a lovely tea-tasting session as part of National Tea Week! 🫖💕
From classic favourites to new and interesting flavours, everyone had fun sampling the different teas, sharing their thoughts, and reminiscing over a good old cuppa.
It was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some delicious drinks, plenty of conversation, and lots of smiles along the way. ☕️😊

Lucy had everyone saying “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” more this afternoon as she lit up the lounge with her ABBA‑themed show. From the first note, residents were tapping their feet, singing along, and enjoying every Super Trouper moment she brought to the room. Her regular visits always turn our residents into Dancing Queens! An afternoon full of sparkles, nostalgia, and the kind of feel‑good energy that makes the whole place say “Thank You for the Music.”

The Rt Hon. Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, Speaker of the House of Commons and MP for Chorley, has visited Astley View Care Home, meeting residents and colleagues and hearing about life at the home
The visit comes as social care has returned to the national conversation, providing an opportunity to highlight the role care homes play in supporting older people, families and their local communities, as well as the skilled care delivered by teams across the sector.
During his visit, Sir Lindsay spent time with residents and colleagues at Astley View and heard about their experiences of living and working at the home.
He also spoke to residents about his own journey from growing up locally in Adlington to becoming Speaker of the House of Commons in 2019. Sir Lindsay reflected on his long connection with Chorley and his determination throughout his career to put the area on the map and secure the best for the local community.
Residents asked questions about his role in Parliament, including how he manages to remember the names of so many MPs, while one resident commented on the dignity he has brought to his tenure as Speaker.

We also welcomed the return of the Poetry club this week. This month our focus was on the amazing works of Pam Ayres. The residents delighted over such classics as 'The Battery Hen', 'Dust if you must' and 'A poem for the Diamond Jubilee'. While enjoying our tasty cheese and biscuits we watched several live performances of Pam including the very funny and very true *Dinner Party'.
A wonderful afternoon of laughter, sharing stories and companionship.
