ARE WE ASKING TOO MUCH OF THE FIBROBLAST?

For years, the beauty industry has focused on one message:

Stimulate more collagen.

But before asking the skin to do more, perhaps we should consider the health of the cells responsible for producing it.

Fibroblasts are specialised cells found mainly in the dermis, the supportive layer beneath the surface of the skin. They help produce collagen, elastin and the extracellular matrix that gives our skin its strength, structure and resilience.

Like every cell in the body, fibroblasts are affected by ageing. Their function can also be influenced by UV exposure, oxidative stress, inflammation, smoking and repeated injury.

When a fibroblast becomes aged or dysfunctional, it may not respond to stimulation in the same way as a younger, healthier cell. Some can enter a state known as cellular senescence: the cell remains alive, but its behaviour and communication with the surrounding tissue change.

This is why I don’t believe good skin treatment should be about continually forcing the skin to work harder.

Sometimes the skin needs stimulation; but sometimes it needs calming, strengthening and supporting first.

My approach is to:

• Protect the skin barrier
• Reduce unnecessary inflammation
• Respect the skin’s ability to recover
• Stimulate in a controlled and appropriate way
• Allow enough time between treatments for repair and remodelling

Treatments such as radiofrequency and microneedling can provide a controlled stimulus that supports the skin’s natural repair response. But more intensity and more frequent treatment do not automatically mean better results.

The condition of the skin, the timing of treatment and the individual’s ability to heal all matter.

Skin longevity isn’t simply about making someone look younger today. It is about supporting healthier, more resilient skin as it continues to age.

WHAT A FANTASTIC TRAINING DAY!

Last Friday, I completed my practical CEll Regen training - and what an informative day it was, though I was nervous - but that’s me!!!

I learned so much about this advanced radiofrequency treatment and, most importantly, we focused on getting results while working safely on each area of the face and body.

Our models achieved fantastic visible results after just one treatment, including:

• A more defined jawline and facial contour
• A firmer-looking chin and neck area
• Softer-looking lines and folds
• Smoother, fresher-looking skin
• A noticeable lifted and sculpted appearance

One of the most interesting moments was treating only one side of a model’s face first. The immediate difference between the sculpted and untreated sides made it possible to see the effect as the treatment progressed.

CEll Regen is designed to support the skin’s natural collagen-remodelling response, so improvements may continue to develop over the weeks following treatment.

A course of 6 treatments is recommended and results will vary from person to person.

HOW DEEPLY CAN I WORK?

When I use CEll Regen, I’m not just working on the surface of the skin. I’m remodelling the deeper layers!!!

• The epidermis — the skin’s protective outer layer
• The dermis — where collagen, elastin and fibroblast cells support firmness and elasticity
• Towards the SMAS — a deeper support layer beneath the skin that contributes to facial structure and contour

This controlled way of working can cause existing collagen fibres to contract while supporting the skin’s natural remodelling response over time.

Something new is coming to Unique Beautique!!!! We’re taking facial sculpting to the next level.

I’ve been talking about what happens to our skin as we age - particularly the changes we can see around the jawline, lower face and neck.

We’ve also looked at collagen and why radiofrequency has become such an interesting technology for supporting ageing skin.

There was a reason for all of that… 😉

I’ve been researching radiofrequency for a long time. I did have the technology a few years ago but wanted top of the line for myself and for you all.

I wanted something that fitted with the way I already work — natural-looking results, healthy ageing and improving the skin rather than trying to change the face.

And I’ve finally found it.

At the end of August, I’ll be completing specialist training in a new advanced treatment designed to work with the skin’s own regenerative processes.

No big reveal just yet…
