🏖️ A Much-Needed Long Weekend!

I’m taking a well-earned break away with the Mrs, so while the shop will still be open for drop-offs and collections on Saturday and Monday, all console, controller and GHD repairs will be on hold until Tuesday.

🎮 Another Xbox Series X HDMI repair completed ✅

This one arrived with no display and, once stripped down, it was clear the HDMI port wasn’t the only problem. The damage had torn 2 pads and ripped the traces away from the motherboard.

The damaged traces was carefully exposed, rebuilt and secured before fitting a new HDMI port. The console was also absolutely packed with dust, so it received a much-needed internal clean while it was apart.

We do it this way so in the event of another hdmi port issue in the future, a new port can simply be placed back on these traces rather than rerun them again.

Reassembled, tested and displaying perfectly again ✅

HDMI damage doesn’t always mean the console is beyond repair—even when traces have been ripped from the board.

⚠️ This PS5 could barely breathe!

Once opened, we found the fan, heatsink and internal airways completely clogged with dust. With airflow this restricted, the console can overheat, become excessively noisy and eventually shut itself down.

The console received a full strip-down service:

✅ Fan and heatsink thoroughly cleaned
✅ Internal dust removed
✅ Liquid metal checked and correctly redistributed
✅ Cooling system reassembled and tested

The difference speaks for itself — clean, clear and able to cool properly again. 🎮

🎮 SENT AWAY FOR REPAIR… AND RETURNED EVEN MORE BROKEN! 😬

This Xbox Series X arrived with quite a story…

The customer’s console suddenly switched off and became completely unresponsive — no power, no beep and no light.

As it was only slightly outside its warranty, he returned it to Currys and paid to have it sent away for repair. Several weeks later, he received a message saying it had been fixed and was on its way back.

There was just one problem…

It arrived back still completely dead.

It later turned out that the “fixed” message had been sent to the wrong customer. After plenty of running around and hoops to jump through, the customer eventually gave us a call.

As always, we were only too happy to help. 💪

The original no-power fault was simply a failed internal power supply — but unfortunately, the previous repair attempt had also introduced another problem.

The tiny ribbon connector responsible for the front power button, eject button and LED had been badly smashed. Instead of replacing or repairing it, the console had simply been reassembled and returned to the customer in that condition.

The photos show the damaged connector we found, followed by the clean replacement installed here at PlayBox Console Services. 🔬🛠️

✅ Internal power supply replaced
✅ Damaged ribbon connector removed
✅ New connector professionally installed
✅ Console reassembled and fully tested
✅ Xbox Series X back up and running

To Currys’ credit, they have since reimbursed the customer, so hats off to them for eventually getting the customer-service side sorted.

However, the standard of workmanship from the repair centre used leaves a lot to be desired. We regularly see this exact type of connector damage after inexperienced DIY strip-downs — we certainly wouldn’t expect to find it after a paid professional repair.

If your console has been returned unrepaired, declared unrepairable or has come back with additional damage, it is always worth getting a second opinion from a specialist.
