A tiny moment that can make a big difference.

This was my first positive aspiration in 3 years of injecting fillers.

So what does that mean?

Before injecting filler, I gently pull back on the plunger to check for blood return. This is called aspiration.

On this occasion, I saw blood return, so I did not inject.

Aspiration is just one part of filler safety, and it isn't a guarantee that a vascular event can't happen. Safe injecting involves anatomy knowledge, appropriate technique, careful injection and knowing how to recognise and manage complications.

Most patients will never see these little safety checks happening during their treatment.

But they're an important part of what happens behind the scenes.

Because sometimes, the safest decision is simply not to inject.

3 red flags to watch for before booking any aesthetic treatment

Your face isn't the place to cut corners. Here's what should make you walk straight back out the door:

1. No proper consultation. If they're happy to inject within minutes with no questions about your medical history or goals, that's a problem.

2. Pressure to add "just a bit more" on the day. Good practitioners plan conservatively, not for upselling.

3. No transparency on qualifications, insurance, or products used. You should always be able to ask and get a clear answer.

Save this for your next consultation.

Thrilled to be featured in the Summer 2026 issue of Hood Magazine

In the piece, I talk about the shift I've been seeing at Dr Hala Aesthetics.. patients moving away from overfilled, frozen results and towards treatments that support skin health at a deeper level. We're not chasing instant volume anymore. It's about improving how the skin actually functions: structure, firmness, resilience.

Polynucleotides, medical-grade microneedling and exosomes are at the centre of that approach for me right now, subtle, cumulative results that leave you looking like you, just fresher and more supported.

Grateful to the Hood team for having me as part of this conversation on where aesthetics is heading. Full feature out now! Grab a free copy or read more via the magazines website.

Vikki Soloman lost her life in Edinburgh this week.

Vikki ran her own aesthetics business and was a mother. Her family have asked for privacy at this difficult time, and our thoughts are with them.

It's a heartbreaking reminder that too many women in Scotland are living in fear of a partner or ex right now.
If that's you.. you are not alone, and help is available:

Nothing means more than hearing how my patients feel after their treatment.

Thank you, Sheena, for trusting me with your skin and for taking the time to share your experience.

Microneedling is one of my favourite treatments because it works with your skin to stimulate collagen, improve texture, soften fine lines, reduce acne scarring, and restore a healthier, more radiant complexion. The best part? Results continue to improve over time.

Every treatment starts with a thorough consultation, realistic expectations, and a personalised treatment plan, because no two skins are the same.

If you've been thinking about microneedling and aren't sure if it's right for you, I'd be happy to help.

We see flawless skin every day on social media. Filters, editing, perfect lighting and dramatic before-and-afters can make us forget what real skin actually looks like.

Real skin has pores.
Real skin has texture.
Real skin changes over time.
And the best results are rarely achieved overnight.

As an aesthetic doctor, I believe in honest advice and realistic expectations. My goal is to help you achieve healthy, natural-looking results that are tailored to you, not to trends or unrealistic standards.

If social media has ever made you question your skin, I hope this post reminds you that real skin is beautiful too.

Which slide resonated with you the most? Let me know in the comments.

We all want healthy, glowing skin, but achieving it usually comes down to a few consistent habits rather than one miracle product.

If your skin has been looking dull or lacking radiance, start by focusing on the foundations:
โœ”๏ธ Wear SPF every day.
โœ”๏ธ Use Vitamin C in the morning.
โœ”๏ธ Exfoliate gently with glycolic acid 1โ€“2 times a week.
โœ”๏ธ Keep your skin well hydrated with a good moisturiser.

Once you've established a consistent skincare routine, professional treatments such as microneedling, skin boosters, and polynucleotides can help improve skin quality, boost collagen production, and restore a healthy glow.

Great skin takes time, consistency, and a plan tailored to your individual needs.

One of the biggest misconceptions in aesthetics is that you can decide on the right treatment in a few minutes.

You can't.

Before I recommend anything, I carry out a full facial assessment. I look at your facial proportions, skin quality, muscle movement, volume loss, symmetry, and how your face changes when you smile, talk, and rest. We also discuss your concerns, medical history, previous treatments, and, most importantly, the result you want to achieve (and I'm sure all my patients have seen that during their consultations).

Often, what you think is the problem isn't actually the cause.

That's why my consultations are never about selling treatments, they're about creating the right plan for you. Sometimes that means Botox, sometimes filler, sometimes skin rejuvenation, and sometimes the best advice is to do nothing!

Natural results always start with a careful assessment, not a syringe. ๐Ÿค
