INGROWN HAIRS AFTER WAXING — WHY DO THEY HAPPEN? 🤍

Ingrown hairs happen when a new hair curls back or grows sideways into the skin instead of growing out normally. This can happen when dead skin cells or product buildup block the follicle.

Why can they happen after waxing?

✨ Fine regrowth
After waxing, new hair growth can be finer and may struggle to break through the surface of the skin.

✨ Broken hairs
If a hair breaks at the surface rather than being removed from the root, it’s more likely to curl back into the skin.

✨ Buildup around the follicle
Dead skin cells can build up over the follicle, creating a barrier that makes it harder for the new hair to grow through.

How can you help prevent them?

🧴 Wait 48 hours before exfoliating
Give your skin time to settle after waxing. After 2–3 days, gently exfoliate 2–3 times a week using a suitable chemical exfoliant, such as a gentle scrub.

💧 Moisturise daily
Use a light, fragrance-free moisturiser to keep the skin soft and hydrated, helping new hairs grow through more easily.

👗 Wear loose clothing
Tight clothing and synthetic underwear can create friction against freshly waxed skin, which may contribute to irritation and ingrown hairs.

🙅‍♀️ Don’t pick or squeeze
Picking at or squeezing an ingrown hair can make inflammation worse and increase the risk of scarring. Instead, try a warm compress to help soften the skin and encourage the hair to surface naturally.
