So what does a Sports Therapist actually do?

It's not only for athletes, and it's not only massage. Abi assesses how you move, finds where things have gone wrong, and builds a rehab plan to get you back to what you enjoy, whether that's running, lifting, gardening or keeping up with the grandkids.

If you've got a ni**le that won't settle, or you're coming back from injury and not sure what's safe to do.

Call 01395 911493 or book online to see Abi on a Friday

We've got a new face at Pyramid Health — meet Abi Clifford, our new Sports Therapist.

Abi's an Exmouth local, a 2025 Sports Therapy graduate, and she's currently doing her Master's in Sports Rehabilitation at Health Sciences University in Bournemouth, the same place Mike and Yasmin trained.

She's already worked pitch-side with men's rugby at Crediton and Exeter Saracens, and supported NHS rehab for both neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. In her words: "Their philosophy aligns perfectly with mine - treating the person in front of you, not just the condition."

Abi's in clinic on Fridays, with more hours coming soon. Give her a warm welcome! Book online or call 01395 911493.

Lesson from Mike's shoulder dislocation

Like many people, his first instinct was to protect the shoulder by avoiding movement altogether.

But joints don't thrive when they're wrapped in cotton wool. In many cases, too much rest can lead to more stiffness, reduced confidence, and a slower return to normal activity.

What helped was sensible, graded movement, guided by treatment and the right exercises. A little more movement, strength, and confidence each day.

Recovery isn't about pushing through pain or rushing the process. It was about rebuilding function step by step and allowing the shoulder to adapt along the way.

Sometimes the goal isn't to stop moving, it's to find the right way to keep moving.

Two more things Mikes recovery taught him. 💡

First: pain is information far more often than it's a warning to stop. Once he understood what was actually going on, he stopped guarding and started moving — and things improved quickly.

Second: recovery isn't a straight line. He had a setback after a fall around week four. A few weeks earlier that would have floored him, but instead he was back to normal within a week. A wobble is not the same as going back to square one.

If your shoulders been stuck for a while, come and get it looked at — this Saturday (11 July) we're running a FREE Shoulder Screening. Limited slots. 📞 Call 01395 911493 or follow the link below

A few weeks ago, Mike dislocated his shoulder in a rugby tackle. 🏉

He couldn't lift his arm, his hand went numb, and he could feel the top of the arm bone sitting where it shouldn't.

A trip to hospital, an X-ray and a (not very pleasant) relocation later, he had plenty of time to think about recovery — this time as the patient, not the clinician.

What he relearned surprised him, even after years of treating shoulders.

We’ll be sharing his recovery journey this week, along with the insights he’s gained as both clinician and patient.

Most people don't think much about their shoulders... until they can't reach the top shelf, sleep comfortably, or get through a gym session without pain.

The good news? Not every shoulder problem needs months of rest or endless stretching.

Sometimes all you need is the right assessment to understand what's actually going on.

If you've been putting up with shoulder pain, don't keep guessing. Follow the link below to book your free shoulder screening and get clarity on your next steps.
