Does make your hair grow back thicker?

Dermaplaning removes vellus hair (the soft, fine “peach fuzz”) from the surface of the skin using a sterile blade. It cannot change the colour, thickness or growth of your hair because it only affect’s the very outer layer of the skin (the epidermis).

Your hair grows from follicles which sit much deeper within the skin in the dermis. The cells responsible for producing hair are found in the hair bulb at the base of the follicle, and the type of hair they produce is determined by your genetics and hormones—not by removing hair at the skin’s surface so it’s impossible for dermaplaning to affect the hair in any way.

When your vellus hair grows back, it may feel slightly blunt at first because it has been cut straight across, but it isn’t actually thicker, darker or growing any faster.
