If you're not being asked, your comfort, safety, and preferences aren't a priority.

1. Do you prefer a silent appointment today or a chit chat? You may get a different answer from the same client on different days, ask every time.

2. Do you have any allergies? There are a lot of hidden ingredients in skincare and this question should be a standard on all consultation forms. If you havent been asked, that is a huge red flag that your health and safety may not be a top priority, as it should be.

3. Are you okay with light hair tugs? While it can be very stimulating for the scalp and very relaxing, hair tugging can also be extremely triggering for some clients who have been victims of domestic violence. Always ask before pulling a woman's (or man's) hair.

4. Are you comfortable? You should always be offered a bolster for under your knees during a facial. Laying flat on your back for 60-90 minutes can put an immense amount of pressure on your lower back. If Im not offered a bolster, I never go back.

5. Are you okay with honey being used in your products? I have a gorgeous hair oil and hair perfume I like to use on my clients while they have a mask on and I give them a scalp and hair massage but some of my girlies are vegan and so I use a delicious alternative for them instead.

6. What pressure do you like being used on your shoulders? I give a wee shoulder, arms, and hamds massage and some girlies prefer it a bit rougher. Best to ask. 💜

Clients are paying for a gentle escape from the loud outside world, not a time machine back to 1995's Paris Fashion Week overflowing with c*caine and techno.

Some of you may know, between July and Nov 2024 I was quite ill with terrible abdomen pains and a very scary chest infection that nearly turned into pnemonia. Both of these episodes caused me to take significant time off work and things were very scary and uncertain.

During this time I visited my local doctor's office several times and two local hospitals, while also interacting with numerous ambulance EMT/Paramedics, doctors, and nurses on staff in the ER/A&E. All of the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde staff Ive met through those experiences were patient with me, kind, gentle, and thorough, despite them often being overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated 💜
