My journey into hairdressing started when I was just 14 years old. As part of my school work experience, I spent time in two salons — Hans Naturally in Elland and Robinsons Fields in Halifax. It was during my second week at Robinsons Fields that I was offered a job as a Saturday girl. I absolutely loved it. The team was amazing, the atmosphere was always friendly, and it quickly became somewhere I truly enjoyed being.

It was there that I realised I wanted to become a stylist.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t space for another trainee stylist at the salon unless I became a colour technician, but I knew I wanted to learn every part of the craft. So they kindly put me in touch with a friend of theirs at Monroes in Halifax. That’s where my real training began, and I worked towards becoming a Level 3 qualified stylist alongside an amazingly talented team .

During that time life was also changing in the most wonderful ways. I had our first little boy, Billy, and after qualifying we welcomed our second son, Loui, just 13 months later. Being a stylist was something I loved, but becoming a mum made me realise I wanted to create a life that worked around both my passion and my family.
I started by working alongside my good friend mr lee Darnbrook (Tarbys &co ) as a self employed stylist -lots of fond memories made there one’s il never forget x
Then with the incredible support of my husband Paul who has been by my side since we were just 14 years old ,I decided to take the biggest step of all and open my very own salon.

The name came in the most special way. One evening we were all lying in bed trying to think of what to call the salon. Our youngest son Loui was playing on his handheld computer and suddenly said, “What about Bilouair?”

Billy. Loui. Hair.
And it even sounded a little bit French.

That was it , the name was born.

Walking into my very own salon, with a name inspired by our children, was one of the proudest moments of my life. From starting out as a 14-year-old Saturday girl to building something of my own for my family.

Since then our family has grown even more. We welcomed our two beautiful girls, Boux and Loula, whose initials also live within the name of the salon making Bilouair even more meaningful to us.

As our journey continued, we then opened Bilouair Barbering above the salon. Both of our boys trained to become barbers , something that made me incredibly proud. One has chosen to follow a different path for now, but our youngest Loui decided to follow in his mum’s footsteps and now works alongside me in the salon, which is very special.

Along the way I’ve also been incredibly lucky to work with so many amazing staff members. Every single one of them has been loved and truly appreciated. They have all played a part in the journey and helped me grow the salon into what it is today, and for that I will always be grateful.

What started as a young girl’s dream in a small salon has grown into something that represents our family, our journey, and the life we’ve built together. I feel incredibly lucky for the love and support around me ,especially from Paul, who has always believed in me every step of the way.

Bilouair isn’t just a salon name.
