Plantar Fasciitis Case Study

A lovely gentleman came to see me with plantar fasciitis — a common condition that can cause quite a lot of pain around the heel and sole of the foot

After taking a thorough history and assessing him, we talked through the information and put together a treatment plan that worked for him. This included acupuncture, some gentle stretches, using an insole on the affected side, and rolling a frozen water bottle under the foot while resting to help ease the discomfort.
We also made sure the plan fitted around his health, work and family commitments. There’s no point creating a treatment plan if it’s too difficult to fit into everyday life!

He had two treatments in the first week, followed by one treatment each week for the next three weeks.

By the end of the second week, he was already noticing a difference. His pain had started to settle and he described his foot as feeling more relaxed. As he became more comfortable, he was able to move a little more — which in turn helped him to continue making progress and feel better overall.

By then end of the fourth week he was only having rare bouts of pain.

We finally met up for a six month check up at with he received therapeutic acupuncture because he hadn't had an episode of pain for three months.
For me, this is what good care is about: listening to the individual, working together and finding something that feels realistic and manageable.

Everyone’s body and circumstances are different, so treatment should be too.
