My second most popular treatment is a wonderful treatment that helps "iron out" all your aches and pains.

The best deep tissue treatment goes through three stages:

1. Effleurage: A posh french word for upward strokes along the body to increase heat. You can't do a massage without it.

2. Petrissage: Another fancy french word for kneading and manipulating the muscle. You can't go hard with this just yet, it helps to slowly build up pressure and locate knots so the body can adjust and adapt.

3. Friction: this is the sweet spot. Using sweeping forearm and elbow techniques, you can get deep into areas such as the scapula, lower back, hamstrings and more.

The best deep tissue treatment is a mixture of all three and a good masseuse will never go too hard with the pressure. They'll adapt it so you can feel the benefits, not pain.

The better you understand the treatments, the better you can translate this to your masseuse.
