A bit more on why this happens, since it catches a lot of people out. 💭

Your tan sits in the outer layer of your skin, and that layer is constantly shedding on its own. Heat speeds that process up, so the shedding happens faster than usual and takes your colour with it. Sweat makes it worse because it breaks the tan down on the surface, while the heat itself is drying the skin out underneath. That combination is usually why tans fade patchy in summer rather than gradually and evenly.

The good news is hydrated skin turns over more slowly, so keeping your skin properly moisturised through the sunny months genuinely helps your tan hold on longer.
