It's easy to look at someone else's recovery and wonder whether you're falling behind.

In eating disorder recovery, comparing yourself to others can quickly become a barrier to progress. We often judge our own journey based on visible behaviours or milestones, without seeing the wider context, including someone's support network, treatment history, or personal challenges.

This can contribute to self-criticism, unrealistic expectations, and the belief that we're somehow "doing recovery wrong"
Supporting recovery means helping people shift their focus away from external comparisons and towards their own values, goals, and progress.

Recovery isn't about keeping pace with someone else. It's about building a sustainable relationship with food, health, and
yourself.

It's easy to think everyone else is moving faster.

Especially online.

But recovery isn't something you can compare.

Someone else's progress doesn't make yours any less meaningful, and taking longer doesn't mean you're doing it wrong.

There isn't a deadline to recover by. There isn't a "perfect" timeline.

Fear is not proof that you shouldn't recover.

Fear is often part of the process.

Many people in recovery feel scared of change, scared of uncertainty, or scared of letting go of behaviours that have felt familiar for a long time.

Being brave doesn't mean feeling no fear.

Sometimes it means taking the next step while fear is still there.

💙 Recovery doesn't require fearlessness.

Many people believe they need to feel ready before they recover. Ready enough, motived enough, confident enough.

But recovery doesn't usually begin with certainty.

It often begins with one small step taken despite uncertainty.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you deserve support.

💙 Which one of these did you need to hear today?

Have you ever found yourself wondering:
💭 Am I doing enough?
💭 Should I be pushing through?
💭 What do I actually need right now?

Stress, burnout, and overwhelm can make it difficult to trust ourselves.

Our latest blog explores why self-trust is such an important part of recovery and how we can begin rebuilding it one small step at a time.

💙 Inside the blog:
• Signs you've lost self-trust
• Why it happens
• Gentle ways to rebuild it
• What recovery can look like when you trust yourself again

You might not have lost motivation.

You might have lost trust in yourself.

When we're stressed, burnt out, or overwhelmed, it's common to start second-guessing ourselves. Should I rest? Am I doing enough? What do I actually need right now?

Over time, constantly pushing through can make it harder to hear our own needs.

The good news? Self-trust can be rebuilt.

It doesn't happen overnight, but it can start with small moments of listening to yourself and responding with care.

💙 Which slide resonated with you most?

How many times have you told yourself: "I'll rest when I've finished everything."
The problem is that the list never really ends.

Rest isn't something you have to earn through productivity. It's a basic human need.

Giving yourself permission to pause doesn't mean you're lazy. It means you're listening to what your mind and body need.

💙 What's one way you can give yourself permission to rest this week?

Recovery is often portrayed as a dramatic transformation.

In reality, it can look much quieter than that.

It might be taking a break before you're exhausted, asking for support, starting again after a difficult day, choosing self-compassion over self-criticism.

Small moments matter. Small steps count 💙

If you'd like more support on your wellbeing journey, our Recovery Membership offers resources, community, and encouragement every step of the way.

Recovery isn’t about getting everything right.

It’s more about just… keeping going, even when it feels slower than you thought it would.

Even when fear keeps showing up in the middle of it.

You don’t need to do recovery perfectly.

You just need support, a bit of kindness toward yourself, and the next step in front of you.

Healing isn't a straight line. It has ups and downs. 🌀🕊

If you have a high-achieving mind, it’s completely natural to want to "ace" your recovery. You expect the progress chart to look like a steady, upward line: clean, predictable, and perfect.

But true healing doesn’t work that way.

The straight line isn't actually recovery, it’s just rigidity wearing a new outfit. It’s the old voice telling you that you have to do everything perfectly to be safe.

The messy, looping spiral? That is what freedom actually looks like.

The magic happens in the loops. The loops are where you learn to adapt when a plan changes spontaneously. The loops are where you practice kindness toward yourself after a difficult day. The loops are where you unlearn perfectionism and build real-world resilience. 🧠✨

You don’t have to do this perfectly to be doing it right. Every twist and turn is just your brain learning how to be flexible again.

At the Bluebird Centre, we don't expect a perfect performance. We are building a membership community that embraces the
messy middle and gives you the tools to navigate the spiral with ease.

Give yourself permission to drop the checklist today. 🤍
