Need a coffee before you feel human?☕😅
There's nothing wrong with enjoying coffee.
But if you feel completely unable to function until you've had your first cup, it might be worth asking why.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, low energy isn't always about needing more caffeine. Sometimes it's a sign that your body is running low on the resources it uses to create energy in the first place.
That's why some people find themselves stuck in a familiar cycle:
☕ Coffee to get going
📈 A temporary boost
📉 Energy drops again
☕ Another coffee
Rather than asking, "How can I get more energy right now?", Chinese Medicine often asks:
Why is your energy running low in the first place?"
Sleep, digestion, stress, overwork, poor recovery, and even irregular routines can all play a role.
Sometimes the answer isn't another coffee.
It's understanding what's draining your battery.
👉 Are you a one-coffee-a-day person, or does it take several cups before you feel awake? 😄

Why do some people feel hungry again shortly after eating? 🍽️
Most of us assume it simply means we didn't eat enough.
But Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at things a little differently.
Rather than focusing only on how much food you eat, Chinese Medicine asks how well your body is transforming that food into energy.
That's why two people can eat the same meal and have completely different experiences afterwards.
One feels satisfied for hours.
The other is rummaging through the biscuit tin by 3pm. 🍪😅
A few simple things that may help:
🟢 Sit down and eat without rushing whenever possible 🥢
🟢 Include protein, healthy fats, and fibre in your meals 🍳
🟢 Try not to rely on snacks throughout the day to keep your energy up ⚖️
🟢 Go a little easier on iced drinks with meals if digestion tends to feel sluggish 🧊
🟢 Pay attention to whether you're truly hungry—or simply tired, stressed, or looking for a quick boost ☕
In Chinese Medicine, feeling full isn't always the same as feeling nourished.
Sometimes the issue isn't how much you're eating.
It's how much your body is getting from what you eat. 🌿

☀️ It might not just be the heat.
In Chinese medicine, sweat is closely linked to Qi, the body's vital energy.
Heavy sweating is thought to deplete Qi as well as Body Fluids, which is why heat can leave some people feeling exhausted rather than simply warm.
Some signs this may apply to you:
🟢 Feeling wiped out rather than just warm after time in the sun
🟢 Sweating easily, even with light activity
🟢 Wanting to lie down rather than just cool off
🟢 Water alone doesn't seem to fix how you feel
Rather than simply rehydrating and pushing through, Chinese medicine asks whether Qi itself also needs replenishing.
Simple things that may help include:
🟢 Resting properly rather than pushing through the fatigue
🟢 Choosing nourishing foods alongside water, not water alone
☀️ Does the heat leave you needing a nap more than everyone else around you?

🦟 It might not just be bad luck.
In Chinese medicine, people showing a Damp-Heat pattern are thought to have more internal Heat and Dampness than they should.
This pattern is traditionally associated with stronger reactions to insect bites, meaning the bites may become redder, hotter, more swollen and much itchier than expected.
Some signs of Damp-Heat include:
🟢Feeling heavy or sluggish, especially in humid weather
🟢 Waking with a sticky or bitter taste in your mouth
🟢 Oily skin or sticky sweat
🟢 Bites that don't just itch – they become hot, swollen and intensely irritated
Rather than simply treating the bite itself, Chinese medicine looks at why your body is reacting that way in the first place. Treatment aims to clear Heat, resolve Dampness and restore balance from within.
Simple things that may help include:
🟢 Cutting back on greasy, sugary and very rich foods
🟢 Choosing more warm, lightly cooked meals instead of lots of cold, raw foods
🦟 Are you always the one mosquitoes seem to find first?
We'd love to know if you're the designated "mosquito magnet" in your family or group of friends!

Why do some people feel worse after a lie-in? 😴
It sounds completely backwards, but more sleep doesn't always mean more energy.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the body thrives on rhythm and routine. Rather than viewing sleep as a simple "recharging process," TCM sees energy as something that follows natural daily cycles.
That's why sleeping too little can leave you exhausted—but so can regularly sleeping far beyond your usual wake-up time.
When those rhythms become disrupted, some people notice:
💭 Brain fog
🥱 Grogginess
⚡ Low energy
😴 Feeling as though they could go straight back to bed
A few simple things that may help:
🟢 Try to keep a fairly consistent wake-up time, even on weekends ⏰
🟢 Get some natural daylight soon after waking to help your body switch into daytime mode ☀️
🟢 If you're feeling sluggish, choose warming foods like porridge, eggs, soups, or herbal teas rather than relying entirely on caffeine 🍵
🟢 Pay attention to how you feel after different amounts of sleep. Often it's consistency—not extra hours—that makes the biggest difference 🌿
Sometimes feeling tired isn't about needing more rest.
Sometimes it's about helping your body find its rhythm again.

Ever come back from a holiday feeling like you need another one? ✈️😴
We tend to think of holidays as recovery time. But in Chinese Medicine, recovery and stimulation are not the same thing.
Travel, sightseeing, socialising, late nights, heat, different foods, unfamiliar environments—even excitement—still require energy. 🌍☀️
That's why you can come home with amazing memories and still feel completely depleted.
In Chinese Medicine, we often see this as a temporary drain on your Qi (energy) and Shen (mental and emotional reserves). When those reserves run low, you might notice:
🥱 Low energy
💭 Brain fog
😴 Poor sleep despite feeling tired
☕ Needing more caffeine than usual
😩 Struggling to get back into routine
A few simple ways to help replenish after a busy holiday:
🟢 Give yourself a day or two to settle back into your normal routine rather than jumping straight back into everything 📅
🟢 Prioritise regular meals over grabbing food on the go 🍲
🟢 Choose a few quiet moments each day instead of filling every spare minute with activity 🌿
🟢 If you've been travelling a lot, favour warming, nourishing foods for a few days rather than relying on sugar and caffeine ☕
🟢 Notice whether you're actually tired—or simply overstimulated. The solution may be different. ⚖️
Sometimes feeling exhausted after a holiday doesn't mean you did it wrong.
It simply means your body hasn't had time to replenish what the experience required.

Has your skin been feeling more irritated, reactive, or breakout-prone lately? ☀️🥵
Warmer weather can affect the skin more than people realise.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, excess internal Heat is thought to rise and show up through the skin — which is why some people notice more redness, flare-ups, acne, or sensitivity during hotter months. 🩸
A few simple things that may help during summer:
🟢 Go a little easier on alcohol, spicy foods, and excess sugar 🍷❌
🟢 Eat more cooling foods like cucumber, celery, watermelon, or leafy greens 🥬
🟢 Keep showers lukewarm if your skin already feels inflamed 🚿
🟢 Pay attention to whether stress or heat tends to trigger flare-ups 🌿
Sometimes skin irritation is more than just a skincare issue — it can reflect what’s happening internally too.

Feeling completely wiped out by mid-afternoon lately? 🥵☀️
A lot of people feel more sluggish, foggy, or heavy during hotter weather and assume they’re just “bad in the heat.” But in Chinese Medicine, summer heat is thought to gradually drain the body’s fluids and energy — especially if you’re already running low.
That can show up as:
😴 Afternoon crashes
💭 Brain fog
🥤 Feeling thirsty but still drained
☀️ Feeling slower or heavier in the heat
A few small things can really help:
🟢 Don’t rely entirely on iced drinks when you’re already depleted 🧊
🟢 Eat lighter, water-rich foods like cucumber, watermelon, or leafy greens 🍉
🟢 Try to slow down a little during the hottest part of the day 🌿
🟢 Pay attention to whether caffeine is actually helping your energy — or just pushing you through ☕⚖️
Sometimes the body needs support adapting to the season, not just more coffee and willpower.
