🎹 Following their concerts at The Vortex Jazz Club and Downstairs at 180, Sorin Zlat Trio continue their UK tour with a special performance at The Cowshed Jazz Club, featuring vocalist Mihaela Alexa.

Led by the award-winning Pianist and Yamaha Arrist Sorin Zlat, the first non-American to win the Grand Prix at the Great American Jazz Piano Competition, the trio collaborates with Mihaela Alexa to deliver a dynamic genre-spanning repertoire. Her expressive, soulful vocals enrich their musical style, which ranges from re-imagined jazz standards to intricate, cinematic original compositions.

Part of English PEN’s flagship translation grant programme, the latest round supports 14 titles from 13 publishers, helping bring outstanding international literature to English-language readers.

Romania is taking centre stage as a tourist destination at the 2026 edition of the BBC Proms, one of the world’s most prestigious classical music festivals.

Running from 17 July, this year’s Proms features 63 events, each accompanied by an official festival programme. For the first time, the 2026 programme includes a dedicated page inviting international audiences to “Discover Romania.”

The campaign is supported by Romania’s Ministry of Economy, Digitalisation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism / Ministerul Economiei, Digitalizării, Antreprenoriatului și Turismului, with the backing of the Romanian Cultural Institute in London. It represents a significant milestone in Romania’s cultural and tourism promotion in the UK, at a festival founded in 1895 and renowned worldwide for its concerts at the magnificent Royal Albert Hall.

Romania’s presence at the Proms celebrates the BBC Proms debut of acclaimed Romanian pianist Alexandra Dariescu, the first Romanian woman pianist to ever perform at the prestigious festival.

On the day of Dariescu’s concert, the official festival programme also features a dedicated page highlighting Romanian cultural diplomacy in Britain and the work of the Romanian Cultural Institute in London.

To mark International Roma Genocide Remembrance Day, the Consulate General of Romania in London/ Consulatul General al României la Londra, in partnership with Roma Voice Centre, invite you to a roundtable discussion that brings together expert speakers on the topic: Professor Marius Turda (Oxford Brookes University), Mihai Bica - Public Policy and Campaigns Coordinator (Roma Support Group) and Marija Hamza, Master’s student in Holocaust Studies (Royal Holloway).

An important opportunity to reflect on the history and legacy of the Samudaripen (Roma Genocide), because remembering the past is essential to shaping a more just future.

🎶 Versatile mezzo-soprano Adriana Festeu is back in Belgrave Square with a carefully curated story-recital not to be missed. She will be accompanied on the piano by Christopher White, Head of Opera at the Royal Academy of Music.

📋 The recital follows the life of a woman who could be anyone. Her story is one of countless possible lives, shaped by circumstance and choice. Energetic, imaginative and at times melancholic, she is accompanied by recurring motifs of dreams and spring that mark key stages of her journey.

Spanning lieder, an oratorio aria, a concert aria and piano interludes, the programme traces her path from first breath to last, offering a fresh perspective on familiar repertoire through the interplay of language, genre and storytelling.

The event is part of our programme at Open House London/ Open City.

📢 Call for Papers | Brâncuși: The Philosophy of Form

🇬🇧 Researchers, artists and curators are invited to contribute to ‘Brâncuși: The Philosophy of Form’, an international symposium taking place in Târgu Jiu, Romania, from 22–26 October 2026, as part of the celebrations marking 150 years since the birth of Constantin Brâncuși.

Organised by “Constantin Brâncuși” University of Târgu Jiu and Târgu Jiu Town Hall, under the patronage of the President of Romania, the symposium is held in partnership with UNESCO and Kettle’s Yard, University of Cambridge. The scientific committee is headed by Dr Jonathan Vernon, a leading UK specialist on Brâncuși.

The Romanian Cultural Institute in London is pleased to support this initiative that brings together an international and interdisciplinary community of scholars, artists and museum professionals to explore Brâncuși’s work and legacy - from questions of form, philosophy and modernism to archives, conservation, the Parisian avant-garde, contemporary artistic practice and the monumental ensemble at Târgu Jiu.

This is a particularly compelling opportunity to engage with Brâncuși’s work in the city where his monumental ensemble stands, with the programme also including visits to Hobița, the sculptor’s birthplace and memorial house museum, and to works in the collection of the Craiova Art Museum.
