Real client :

"I thought I was failing...
But I was trying to be everything for everyone, while my brain and hormones were struggling too."

She didn't know what was happening.

Her periods had become more frequent.

She was waking up during the night.

She couldn't find the right words in conversations.

Simple tasks suddenly felt overwhelming.

She became more irritable with the people she loved most.

At work, she could no longer keep up with the demands she had always managed before.

Eventually, everything became too much.

She thought she was failing.

But she wasn't.

For many women, the transition through perimenopause can amplify underlying ADHD symptoms. Falling oestrogen levels can affect attention, working memory, emotional regulation and sleep—the same areas many women with ADHD already find challenging.

The result?

Women often blame themselves, when in reality there may be two overlapping conditions contributing to the same experience.

This is why it's so important not to look at symptoms in isolation.

The right assessment can change everything.

Story of Skin issue!

As an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist specialising in women's health, menopause, ADHD and mental health, I've learnt that many women never use the word anxiety.

Instead they say:

"My heart keeps sinking."

"My mind won't switch off."

"I feel restless."

"I'm becoming so angry."

"I don't feel like myself anymore."

In many women, and across many cultures, these words may reflect chronic stress, hormonal change, grief, trauma, burnout or an underlying physical health condition that has never been fully explored.

That's why culturally and clinically competent healthcare isn't just about speaking the same language.

It's about understanding what those words truly mean to the woman sitting in front of you.

Before we tell someone they're "just anxious," we should also ask:

What else has changed?

Every woman's story deserves curiosity before conclusions.

💜 How would you describe anxiety, overwhelm or emotional distress in your own words?

Your words might help another woman finally feel understood.

📢Calling all health care professionals.

Are hormones, ADHD and mental health being assessed separately... when they should be assessed together?
Women in midlife often present with poor concentration, anxiety, low mood, overwhelm, brain fog or executive dysfunction.
The challenge isn't simply recognising the symptoms.
It's understanding why they are happening now.
During this webinar, we'll explore the overlap between hormonal transitions, ADHD and mental health in primary care, including:
• Why ADHD may become more apparent during perimenopause • The role of hormones in brain function and executive function • Differential diagnosis – what else should be considered? • Assessment and clinical reasoning • Current evidence and guideline-based management • Treatment options, including hormonal, non-hormonal and ADHD management where appropriate • Practical case-based discussion for primary care
This session is designed to help clinicians move beyond symptom recognition towards understanding the underlying mechanisms affecting women's brain health.
Looking forward to seeing you there.

Menopause awareness is not enough if women are still left to navigate healthcare, work and mental health alone.

In February 2024, I spoke at the national Best Practice event to doctors, nurses and pharmacists about what effective menopause support really requires.

Women need more than information.

They need clinicians who recognise the overlap between hormones, mental health, sleep, medication and cognitive symptoms.

They need workplaces that understand the impact on confidence, performance and retention.

And they need culturally competent, joined-up care—not fragmented conversations that leave them connecting the pieces themselves.

At every summit and conference I speak at, I highlight the same gap:

Menopause support cannot sit with one professional, one appointment or one policy.

It requires coordinated clinical care, workplace action and professional education.

These are the conversations that belong in every room shaping women’s health.

Will the South Asian Community even listen?

Thanks to Inderjeet

YES THEY LISTEN.

Over the last years I've collaborated with this brilliant organisation to take the menopause and mental health conversation directly to the community, yes including non-english speaking south Asians.

I'd like to say a big thank you to Inderpal for her continued efforts through Nirmal Pure Mind to break down stigma, raise awareness, and create supportive spaces where grassroots communities feel heard, understood, and valued.

A big thank you to all the women who come together to make the changes 🩶

We are incredibly proud that Nirmal Pure-Mind has created a platform for our community to have these important conversations. Together, we can normalise menopause discussions and ensure every woman feels supported through every stage of her journey.

Follow to see all the free support and education they're providing every single month!

Let's keep the conversations going.
