Blanche was a formidable woman — always smiling, endlessly stylish, full of wit, and completely unforgettable.
Widely regarded as one of the most active and respected theatre critics in London and New York, Blanche was still attending the theatre most nights at 99, writing thoughtful, generous reviews published on blanchemarvin.com. She saw her work as a service to the industry — for directors, producers, and fellow critics.
Her extraordinary career spanned producer, actor, and writer, and she was rightly awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Described by The New York Times as London’s best-loved theatre critic, her legacy is profound.
