Today is World Mental Health Day, a reminder of how important it is to talk openly about our mental health, check in on one another, and make sure nobody feels they have to struggle alone.

Life affects us all differently. We all go through difficult times, and experiencing negative emotions can be a natural response to the challenges we face.

But for some of us, things can become more serious, and mental health difficulties can have a profound impact on our lives.

Being aware of what can affect our mental health helps us recognise when we, or someone we care about, might be struggling.

It also helps us understand what we can do to make things better and where to find help and support.

When I have a client sitting in my chair, sometimes I can see that something isn’t right. And it’s not in their smile… it’s in their body language and their eyes.

As hairdressers, we often become more than just the person who does someone’s hair.

We listen,
We care,

and sometimes our salon chair becomes a place where people feel safe enough to open up about what’s really going on in their lives.

❤️ One simple rule to remember is always:

ASK TWICE.

When you ask someone if they’re OK, they might automatically say, “I’m fine.”

So, if you’re worried about someone, ask again.

A simple “Are you sure?” or “I’m here if you want to talk” can make all the difference.

Don’t underestimate the power of listening, showing kindness, and letting someone know they aren’t alone.

You never know what someone is going through behind their smile.

A little kindness, a genuine question, and taking the time to listen could make more of a difference than you will ever realise.
