Skin Bleaching:
Beauty Should Never Come at the Cost of Your Health.
By Phoenix Beauty Pointâą | Investigator
đ„Skin-bleaching products are often marketed as a quick way to achieve a lighter, more even complexion. However, some unregulated creams may contain powerful medicines or toxic substances that can damage the skin and, in certain cases, affect other parts of the body.
Risk varies depending on the product's ingredients, how much you use, where you apply it, and how long you use it.
đ„What may be in unregulated products?
đ„Hydroquinone is banned in cosmetic products in the UK and EU. It can cause skin irritation or sensitivity, and repeated or excessive use has been linked to exogenous ochronosisâa stubborn blue-black or grey-brown discolouration.
This warning is more accurate than claiming hydroquinone causes skin cancer, as the latter has not been confirmed as an established human risk.
đ„Potent corticosteroids are medications used for certain skin conditions under proper guidance. Overuse or applying strong steroids over large areas can thin the skin and cause local damage. In some cases, enough steroid absorption can suppress the adrenal glands' natural cortisol production. This is not simply âoverproduction of cortisol." Effects like acne and others may happen, but broader issues such as mood changes or weakened bones are linked to significant systemic steroid exposure. They should not be presented as inevitable effects of every cream.
đ„Mercury is a toxic element present in some illegal skin-lightening products. Exposure can harm the kidneys and nervous system, and may cause skin problems. WHO reports that products containing mercury for skin-lightening can be associated with anxiety and depression.
đ„What about intravenous glutathione?
đ„Glutathione is a small peptide made of three amino acids, naturally found in living organisms. It is sometimes marketed as an injection or infusion for skin whitening, but evidence for long-lasting cosmetic benefits is limited, and safety concerns persist. Administering it intravenously delivers substances directly into the bloodstream, but this method is not safe or effective for changing skin colour. The US FDA has reported adverse events following IV glutathione use.
A safer message: take care of your skin.
đ„Skin irritation can occur after using unsuitable products, and damage from prolonged or repeated misuse may be difficult to reverse. Avoid unlabelled creams, products from unverified sellers, and cosmetic injections promoted without reliable medical oversight. If youâre concerned about pigmentation or skin conditions, consult a GP or dermatologist for evidence-based treatments. Protecting your skin from the sun can also prevent UV damage and worsen some pigmentation issues.
Remember, your natural skin is not a flaw.
Real beauty supports your health, confidence, and wellbeingânot risks to them.

Gentle Hands, Evidence-Informed Comfort.
Can one session of myofascial release make a difference?
A controlled study involving 66 participants found immediate reductions in measured muscle tone, stiffness and reported pain following one session, compared with rest or Kinesio taping.
These findings suggest that professional, gentle hands-on techniques may provide short-term comfort and help some people feel less stiff. However, the study measured only immediate changesâit does not prove lasting benefits, permanently change fascia, or provide medical treatment for severe conditions.
At Phoenix Beauty Pointâą, every session is thoughtfully adapted to support relaxation, comfort and your personal wellbeing goals.
