What happens when an MCL injury doesn’t heal quite as expected?
In this video, Chris Myers from Complete Physio uses diagnostic ultrasound to assess the Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) alongside a Pellegrini-Stieda lesion - a post-traumatic calcification that can develop after an avulsion injury at the ligament’s attachment on the medial femoral condyle.
Often referred to as a Pellegrini-Stieda fracture or Stieda fracture, this type of injury occurs when a small piece of bone is pulled away at the MCL origin.
If healing is incomplete, calcification or ossification can remain within the ligament tissue.
Ultrasound imaging allows us to assess ligament structure, healing response and associated calcification dynamically in clinic, helping to guide accurate diagnosis, rehabilitation and return-to-sport planning.
Ever wondered what a Baker’s cyst looks like on transverse diagnostic ultrasound?
In this video, Chris Myers from Complete Physio talks through a real-time ultrasound image of a Baker’s cyst, explaining how these fluid-filled swellings develop at the back of the knee and what clinicians look for during assessment.
Diagnostic ultrasound is a fantastic tool for visualising soft tissue structures dynamically, helping us differentiate between causes of posterior knee pain and swelling, and guide appropriate treatment and rehabilitation.
What does a fibula look like on ultrasound after ORIF removal?
In this video, Chris Myers from Complete Physio talks through an ultrasound scan of a patient who sustained a significant fibular fracture requiring ORIF surgery with a plate and 9 screws.
Following removal of the metalwork, ultrasound gives a fascinating insight into the healing bone and surrounding soft tissue changes.
Chris explains what can be visualised on diagnostic ultrasound, including the cortical irregularity left behind from the previous fixation, post-surgical changes and how imaging can help assess healing and ongoing symptoms following major ankle injury and surgery.
Diagnostic ultrasound is an excellent tool for dynamic assessment of musculoskeletal injuries, particularly when monitoring recovery after trauma or orthopaedic procedures.
Base of thumb osteoarthritis is one of the most common causes of hand pain - especially when gripping, pinching or opening jars 👍
The joint at the base of the thumb (the CMC joint) works hard every day, allowing a huge range of movement. Over time, the cartilage can wear down, leading to pain, stiffness and weakness.
Common symptoms include:
▫️ Pain at the base of the thumb
▫️ Difficulty gripping or pinching
▫️ Weakness opening jars or turning keys
▫️ Swelling or tenderness
▫️ A grinding or clicking sensation
Understanding the anatomy is the first step in understanding why these symptoms develop — and what treatment options may help.
Hyaluronic acid injections can help reduce pain, improve movement and support joint function in people with osteoarthritis 🦵✨ Often used for knees, but also suitable for other joints, these injections work by improving lubrication and cushioning within the joint — helping you stay active for longer. At Complete Injections, all procedures are ultrasound-guided for accuracy, safety and comfort. If osteoarthritis is slowing you down, there may be options beyond painkillers and surgery.
Rehab is more than treatment - it’s measurement, progress, and performance. Our high-performance testing suite at Bury St allows us to analyse dynamic movement, measure strength accurately, and assess running mechanics with elite-level technology. Data-driven care for every patient.
You don't need a mountain of pasta the night before your marathon.
It's a classic beginner's mistake.
The giant bowl of spaghetti.
The "carb loading" ritual.
It feels right.
But here's what actually happens.
You wake up bloated.
Your stomach is heavy at mile 3.
By mile 13, you're fighting your gut, not the course.
The truth?
Carb loading isn't one meal.
It's building your intake across the whole week.
Small increases.
Familiar foods.
Nothing new.
And your race morning breakfast?
The same one you ate before every long training run.
No surprises. No experiments. No hero moves.
Your marathon is days away.
Don't let a bowl of pasta be the thing that lets you down.
Save this for race week. You'll thank yourself at mile 20.
Most physios guess.
We measure.
Force plates show us what the eye can't see:
→ Left vs right force production
→ Landing asymmetries
→ Ground reaction patterns
Our team just spent a full CPD day sharpening up on them.
Because "you're fine" isn't good enough when you're coming back from injury — or chasing a PB.
Every performance and sports injury assessment at Complete Physio now includes force plate testing.

Arthrosamid isn’t a steroid. It works completely differently — and the results can last 2-3 years.
Unlike steroid injections that wear off after a few months, Arthrosamid targets the root cause of osteoarthritis pain. But here’s the key: the earlier you treat it, the better the outcome.
Think of it like baked beans on a plate — wash it straight away and it comes right off. Leave it for a month? You’re throwing the plate away.
If you’ve been putting up with joint pain, don’t wait until it’s bone on bone. Book an assessment at one of our 5 Central London clinics — link in bio.
