Lots of new faces here so thought I’d reintroduce myself! I’m Dr Amy and I’m a tri-trained GP, Hair restoration Doctor and menopause specialist. I specialise in supporting women with hair loss throughout perimenopause and menopause.
Widening parting, more shedding, a change in texture in your 40s — three signs it may be worth exploring perimenopause.
Dr Google can't interpret bloods holistically around hair loss. Here's the kind of thing a proper hair loss assessment looks at....history, blood test interpretation (looking at hair specific optimal levels not just the normal ranges) and your scalp.

Hi everyone...... I'm the doctor women see when their hair is falling out and they feel no one has taken it seriously. Here's why I treat hair loss as the medical issue it is.
PCOS has a new name... PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome), renamed in 2026 to reflect that it's a hormonal and metabolic condition, not one about 'cysts.' One of its most overlooked symptoms is hair thinning. If your hair's changed and you have PCOS/PMOS, the link is real. General information, not individual medical advice.
The new weight-loss tablets have just launched..... so if you're thinking of starting them, here's what I'd want you to know as a hair loss doctor. Losing weight quickly (on any medication or diet) is one of the most common triggers for hair shedding, usually 2–3 months in. The good news: it's often temporary and you can protect your hair.....prioritise protein, eat a good mix of fruit and veg, and supplement only where you're genuinely deficient (get your levels checked). This isn't about whether to take them — that's between you and your prescriber. General information, not individual medical advice.
Shedding and thinning look similar but they're not the same thing — and the treatment isn't either. Knowing which one you're dealing with changes everything.
