A body still checking a to do list is still working, wherever it’s anchored.
The nervous system doesn’t downshift because the scenery improved - cortisol stays elevated as long as something’s still waiting on a response.
Real stillness starts when the checking stops. When you signal to the body that it’s safe, that nothing needs your urgent attention. It doesn’t take long - the body has just been waiting for permission.
