5 things I’d look for when choosing a training academy if I was a student again 👇

If I was starting my laser career from scratch, I wouldn’t just look at the price of the course. I’d want to know exactly what I was getting for my money.

1. Real industry experience
I’d want to learn from trainers who actually work in the industry and understand what it’s like treating real clients, not just teaching from a textbook.

2. Hands-on training
Theory is important, but I’d want plenty of practical experience too. Learning how to assess skin, choose the right settings and confidently treat different clients is something you learn by doing.

3. Support after the course
I’d want to know I could ask questions once I’m out there treating clients. Having someone to turn to when you’re unsure about something is SO valuable when you’re starting out.

4. Recognised qualifications
I’d look at exactly what qualification I’m working towards and whether it’s going to support me with insurance and actually allow me to build my career.

5. A trainer who genuinely wants you to succeed
For me, this would be a big one. I’d want someone who cares about developing my confidence, not just getting me through a course and sending me on my way.

Choosing your academy is a big decision. So look beyond the certificate and ask yourself who is actually going to be teaching you, and what support will you have afterwards?

IPL vs Laser. What’s the difference? 🔬

They’re often grouped together, but IPL and laser are two very different technologies.

💡 IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses a broad spectrum of light, meaning multiple wavelengths are emitted at once.

🎯 Laser uses a specific wavelength of light, allowing the energy to be more targeted towards the intended chromophore.

But it’s not simply about knowing that “laser is more powerful”. Understanding wavelengths, chromophores, pulse duration, fluence and skin type is what allows a practitioner to make informed treatment decisions safely and effectively.
