July was one of those months filled with lots of little moments that made me smile.
Not the big milestones (although celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary was definitely one of them), but the everyday things too. Bees in the lavender, eating outside, evening reading in the garden, Arthur snoozing beside me while I worked, and coming home from our walks with a bowl full of blackberries.
In the salon, I loved seeing so many clients choosing bright, bold holiday nails, even if many of them were enjoying their summer a little closer to home this year.
Sometimes it’s the small moments that make a month memorable.

Every summer brings its own nail trends, but this year feels a
little different.
I’ve learned that trends don’t always start on social media or with a celebrity. Sometimes they develop quietly, one client at a time.
This summer, bright colours haven’t just appeared for holidays, they’ve arrived earlier and in far greater numbers. Vibrant oranges, hot pinks and juicy corals have been impossible to ignore.
At the same time, I’ve seen another trend emerge. Soft shimmers in warm peaches, glowing golds and sunlit champagne tones have become favourites. They look beautiful indoors, but step outside and they catch the sunlight in the most magical way.
Perhaps it’s because we’ve enjoyed so much warm weather. Perhaps we’re all craving colour, light and a little extra sparkle. Whatever the reason, it’s been fascinating to watch.
One thing is certain, summer 2026 has definitely had its own colour story.
I’d love to know… have you found yourself reaching for brighter colours or a little more shimmer this summer?

When I look back over the last 21 years, I’ve realised something…
Nails are never just about nails.
I’ve had the privilege of looking after Laura since 2005. She first walked into my salon as a young woman with short, slightly nibbled nails. She felt a little self-conscious about them, but over time they became something she was really proud of.
For years she only chose n**e shades because she believed her skin tone was too pale for brighter colours. Until one appointment, I suggested something different.
That was the last time she chose n**e.
From then on, Laura became known for her colourful nails.
Then life moved on.
A busy career.
Marriage.
Motherhood.
A beautiful little girl.
Like so many women, her nails quietly slipped down the list of priorities.
And that’s okay.
Today, she still pops in for the occasional special event. Her nails are still short, she still nibbles them from time to time, but she still loves that little pop of colour. For an hour, she gets to sit back, relax and leave feeling just a little more like herself.
That’s why you’ll always see lots of short nails on my page.
Because I don’t believe beautiful nails are measured by their length.
I believe the best manicure is the one that suits your lifestyle, your hands and the season of life you’re in.
Because beautiful nails aren’t about keeping up with trends.
They’re about meeting women exactly where they are in life. 🩷🩷🩷

People sometimes ask why I don’t announce that my books are closed.
The truth is, although I’m fortunate to be fully booked most of the time, I like to leave a little flexibility.
The occasional gap means I can sometimes fit in a one-off appointment for a holiday, wedding or special event. It also gives my regular clients a better chance of moving an appointment if life gets in the way.
Most of my regular clients book 3–4 months in advance, so a permanent appointment usually only becomes available when someone moves away or no longer needs their regular slot.
And if a gap isn’t filled? That’s never wasted time. It gives me the opportunity to order stock, catch up on admin, complete training, create content, or simply make sure everything is ready for the next client.
So while you probably won’t see me announcing that I’m “taking on new clients”, if you’re looking for a one-off appointment or would like to join my waiting list for a regular slot, it’s always worth getting in touch.

She thought having gel polish would ruin her nails.
It’s something I hear surprisingly often.
The truth is, nail products themselves aren’t usually the problem. More often than not, damage happens during removal.
Picking, peeling or forcing product off can remove layers of your natural nail along with it, leaving nails feeling thin and weak.
Professional removal is designed to protect the natural nail. Gel polish is gently soaked away, while stronger enhancement products are carefully reduced before being allowed to grow out or be safely removed when appropriate.
Of course, nails also experience everyday life. They get knocked, caught, used to open things (we’ve all done it!), and sometimes they break. That doesn’t necessarily mean the product has failed.
My aim is always to help you keep your natural nails as healthy as possible, not just while you’re in the salon, but long after you leave.
Have you ever thought that gel polish ruins your natural nails?

Yesterday I welcomed a new client who found me because she kept seeing short nails on my social media.
She doesn’t have her nails done very often, but she had a special occasion coming up and wanted them to feel polished without looking unlike herself.
She sent me a photo of her outfit, we talked through a few colour ideas, and then… she discovered my shimmer collection!
Interestingly, she’d already decided that gold would be far too predictable for her. But after seeing all the different shimmer finishes in person, she completely changed her mind.
The gold won instantly.
It’s a lovely reminder that not everyone wants long, dramatic nails. Many people simply want their own nails to look beautiful, elegant and appropriate for their lifestyle, or for a special occasion.
That’s why you’ll continue to see plenty of short nails on my page.

Every client who sits at my table has different nails, a different job, different hobbies and different expectations.
Someone who types all day doesn’t have the same needs as someone who gardens every weekend. A nail biter needs something different from someone with naturally strong nails.
That’s why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all manicure.
I recommend the product that best suits your nails and lifestyle, rather than using the same single product on everyone.
Have you ever chosen a manicure because it was popular, only to find it wasn’t quite right for your nails?
I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments.

This week has definitely tested my planning skills!
I like to think I’m a pretty organised person, but this heatwave has had me rethinking my usual routine.
Arthur’s morning walk has moved to 5.30am before it gets too warm.
Clients have been coming in earlier where possible, so we’re not all melting during the hottest part of the day.
Products behave differently in the heat, and wearing gloves all day definitely doesn’t help!
One thing that hasn’t changed is making sure there are plenty of chilled drinks ready for everyone who walks through the salon door.
It’s all part of creating a calm, comfortable appointment, whatever the weather decides to do.
Has the heat affected your week?

Even after years of doing nails, I’m still learning, practising and looking for better ways to create beautiful results. That’s one of the parts of this job I love most. Ombré nails have always been one of those techniques that felt a little unpredictable.
I’ve watched countless tutorials, tried different brushes, sponges and methods, but I could never get consistently smooth blends.
Then I swapped to these tiny cosmetic sponges with a picker-upper tool… and suddenly it click
Sometimes it’s not about learning another technique. It’s about finding the tools and method that work for you.
These sample tips are proof that practice really does pay off.
I might still have a little wobble when someone asks for ombré but I now feel a whole lot more confident.
Is their a technique that get you in a fluster?
