Muscle Energy Technique is used to rebalance the muscles supporting a joint with the use of strain and counter-strain. This innovative approach helps to restore optimal joint function and reduce muscle tension by applying a controlled amount of force, enabling the muscles to relax and return to their natural state, promoting improved flexibility, strength, and overall wellbeing.

๐๐ฅ Could a hot tub offer more health benefits than a sauna? ๐ฅ๐
A recent study has been exploring how different types of heat therapy affect the body - and the results are quite suprising! ๐
Researchers compared:
๐ Hot water immersion in a hot tub
๐ฅ Traditional sauna
๐ก๏ธ Far-infrared sauna
The study involved 20 healthy adults aged 20โ28 who exercised regularly. Each participant experienced all three types of heat therapy, with their body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, sweat loss, circulation and other physiological responses monitored.
โจ The hot tub came out on top when it came to the most significant effects on the body.
Hot water immersion resulted in:
๐ Increased cardiac output and stroke volume
๐ก๏ธ A greater rise in core body temperature
๐ง Increased sweat loss
๐ฉธ Reduced blood pressure
Interestingly, some of these effects continued even after the session had finished. The researchers also suggested that regular heat exposure may help the body adapt to heat stress over time.
Of course, this was a relatively small study, so more research is needed. But it certainly adds to the growing interest in the potential benefits of heat therapy! ๐

๐ฟโจ Can aromatherapy support wellbeing for people living with dementia? โจ๐ฟ
A fascinating pilot study explored how structured aromatherapy in communal areas of a nursing home could support the wellbeing of people living with dementia.
Essential oil diffusers were placed in the dining room and lounge, with different scents used at specific times of day:
๐ Lemon was diffused 30 minutes after lunch to encourage alertness and attention, while also helping to create a more positive environment around food and appetite.
๐ Lavender was used 30 minutes before supper to promote relaxation and help prepare residents for a calm evening and restful sleep.
The results were encouraging. Staff and visitors reported that residents appeared more relaxed and engaged, with the structured use of aromatherapy supporting a calmer atmosphere and overall wellbeing.
The pilot study concluded that:
โStructured aromatherapy plays a supportive role in enhancing nutritional status and overall wellbeing within a nursing home setting.โ
While further research is needed, this study highlights how thoughtfully designed sensory experiences may offer an additional way to support comfort, calm and wellbeing for people living with dementia. ๐ฟ๐
