I nearly quit doing nails because of lifting.
Not because I didn’t care enough.
Not because I wasn’t trying hard enough.
And not because I needed to buy another product.
I was doing what I had been taught: the same prep, the same products, the same technique — and expecting it to work the same way on every client.
When it didn’t, I assumed the problem was me.
The biggest shift came when I stopped asking, “What am I doing wrong?” and started asking, “Why is this happening on this client?”
Because lifting isn’t one problem with one solution.
The natural nail in front of you matters. Its flexibility, condition, moisture level, previous damage, the client’s lifestyle, your preparation, your structure, your product choice — they all give you information.
That is the way I want my students to learn too.
Not memorising a sequence and hoping it works.
Understanding what they’re seeing, making a decision, and knowing what to investigate when the result isn’t what they expected.
If lifting is something you’re currently struggling to understand, I’ve created a free lifting download to help you start looking at the possible causes instead of immediately blaming yourself or changing products.
You’ll find it through the link in my bio.
And if this reel felt a little too familiar… I promise, I’ve been there. nail lifting causes, builder gel lifting, gel nail retention, nail prep, builder gel training, nail technician education, nail retention problems, structured manicure, nail troubleshooting, nail courses Nottingham
Instagram doesn’t always show the reality of salon work.
Not every client will come to us with “perfect” hands, easy nail shapes or conditions that make our job simple.
Sometimes we need to adapt our position, our technique, our expectations and even the way we define a successful set.
And honestly, I think this is such an important lesson for future nail techs.
Because being a good nail technician isn’t just about creating a beautiful photo.
It’s about understanding the person in front of you, making them feel comfortable, working safely, adapting when needed and still giving them something that makes them feel beautiful.
Some of the most meaningful appointments will never be the most “Instagram-worthy” ones.
But they can still be some of your best work. 🤍

These nails came with a few challenges all at once 👀
Hyperhidrosis, very moist cuticles, a short nail plate and a trapezoidal shape.
And this is exactly why one prep routine, one structure and one application method will never work for every client.
With nails like these, I need to think about:
• how quickly moisture returns to the hands
• how thoroughly I can prepare the cuticle area
• how I control product around very short sidewalls
• how I build the structure without making the nail look even wider
• and how I adapt the application instead of simply following the natural shape
This is the part of nail work I love most — not just following steps, but understanding what I’m looking at and knowing how to adapt.
Because sometimes the biggest difference in your results isn’t a new product.
It’s knowing what to do when the nail in front of you doesn’t fit the “perfect” example.
Would you have recognised the hyperhidrosis here? 👀

What a lovely weekend.🥰
Celebrating my daughter birthday and attending the Ladies pamper evening at Woodborough Hall.
I've meet incredible women , we put the world to right even though we just meet and I had a blast with the girls trying to escape from Alcartraz.
What can I ask more? I am blessed every day🥰

In my personal opinion, the biggest growth doesn’t happen when everything is going right.
It happens in moments like this.
When something doesn’t work out.
When you make a mistake.
When you feel disappointed.
When you have absolutely no idea what your next move should be.
Because that’s when you have a choice.
You can take it as proof that you’re failing…
or you can stop and ask yourself:
What is this trying to teach me?
And I think the same applies to us as nail techs.
The set that didn’t last.
The technique you still can’t get right.
The client situation that knocked your confidence.
The moment you realise there’s a gap in your knowledge.
Those moments are uncomfortable — but they force you to look deeper, ask better questions and understand more.
And THAT is where the actual growth happens.
Not when everything is easy.
When something challenges the version of you that exists right now.
So maybe the setback isn’t taking you backwards.
Maybe it’s asking you to grow. 🤍. nail technician, nail tech mindset, nail tech growth, nail education, nail training, nail educator, nail technician training, Russian manicure training, structured gel training, builder gel training, nail tech confidence, nail tech struggles, nail career, Nottingham nail training, Midlands nail educator
Top coat is not just something you apply because the manicure is finished.
It can actually make or break the whole set.
Too much product and the nails can look bulky, uneven or lose that clean structure you worked so hard to create.
Too little and you can end up with an uneven finish, poor coverage or a manicure that simply doesn’t look refined.
The final look of your set depends on this step more than many nail techs realise.
You can have perfect prep, beautiful structure and a flawless colour application… but if the top coat is applied without control, the whole manicure can lose that polished finish.
Pay attention to your pressure.
Pay attention to your product amount.
Pay attention to your final reflection and surface.
Top coat isn’t just the last step.
It’s part of the structure, balance and final result.
And the details at the end matter just as much as the details at the beginning.
Save this for your next set. 🤍

A little change has happened behind the scenes at Raisa Beauty… 👀🤍
I’ve introduced a new professional nail brand into the salon — .professional
And if you know me, you know I don’t change products just because something is new, popular or looks pretty on Instagram. 😂
Before I bring anything into my salon, I want to understand it.
How it behaves.
How it applies.
How it cures.
How it wears.
And most importantly — whether it allows me to create the kind of results I want for my clients.
For me, products are tools.
A beautiful bottle doesn’t replace good preparation, correct structure or understanding the natural nail — but the right products in knowledgeable hands can make a huge difference.
I’ve been testing this brand, getting to know the system properly and slowly introducing it into my appointments… and so far, I’m really enjoying working with it. 🤍
You’ll definitely be seeing a lot more of .professional at Raisa Beauty.
And yes… obviously I already want half the collection. 😂

This post is not about judging another nail technician.
I don’t know what training she had, how much experience she has, or what circumstances led to this set.
What I can do is look at the result in front of me and ask:
What went wrong here?
What choices could have been different?
What knowledge was missing?
And that’s the part I care about.
Because dual forms are not bad.
They are a tool.
But like any tool, they only work well when you understand how to use them, how to choose the right size, how much product to place, where the structure should sit, and when the technique needs to be adapted.
That is exactly why proper training matters.
Not because training makes you perfect overnight.
But because it teaches you how to assess, understand and make better decisions instead of simply repeating steps.
I’m not interested in tearing another nail tech down.
I’m interested in understanding why a result happened so we can all learn from it.
Because the goal should never be:
“Who did this wrong?”
The better question is:
“What can we learn from this?”
And that is the kind of nail education I want to keep sharing here. 🤍
