One small change that instantly improves your builder application ⬇️

Most nail techs will be familiar with a “slip Layer” but are you using this effectively?

The purpose of a slip layer is to facilitate a larger bead of product that can be used to build architecture and structure in the nail and ensures a strong apex without the nail becoming bulky & wide.

It allows you to control the flow of product with ease, facilitating a smooth finish on the nail with minimal effort.

Add your bead of product to your slip layer (this must be left uncured) then allow the product to begin self levelling. You can then use your liner brush to gently guide the product into place. Use your line of light and feather the product gently.

When you spend time building your structure with this step, not only do you minimise product wastage, it will also reduce time spent finish filing the nail at the end.

Instead you can refine the free edge, cutting down on service time helping to prevent any future retention issues.

5 Lessons I’ve learned over 20 years of being in the nail industry ……

1) Trends will constantly evolve and change over time and you’ll always need to learn a new technique, but the fundamentals will never change and once you master these you have a strong 💪 foundation

2) Undercharging for your services will not allow you to grow your business. You will only ever attract a certain type of client and it seriously impacts the nail industry as a whole

3) social media is an excellent tool to get your business in front of potential clients, but people often get caught up with follower count and engagement. Which is all great if those followers are actually converting to paid clients who sit in your chair. If not, then thousands of followers are pretty pointless really and are serving your Ego more than your business

4) Confidence and skill comes from practice, not perfection. As nail techs we naturally tend to be perfectionists and that’s great, but without making mistakes and being able to learn and grow from these you will never gain confidence. The way we grow our skills and in turn confidence, is to practice the fundamentals and fine tune those mistakes. 20+ years in and I still make mistakes and I’m still learning and practicing.

5) The best investment you can make is in your education. I have taken a number of skill building courses already this year to improve my skills including .nailartist combi manicure course and I’ve just purchased The sculpted effect in order to enhance my skills and make me a better educator. I’ve also booked onto a 3 day event later in the year
