A little reminder about cancellation policies and why they matter. 💅

When a client cancels at short notice and chooses not to pay the cancellation fee, it doesn’t just leave an empty space in my diary—it leaves me without the income I had set aside that time to earn.

As a self-employed nail technician, I don’t receive sick pay, holiday pay, or a guaranteed wage. I only get paid when I am working with clients.

For those who aren’t in the beauty industry, imagine going to work, completing your shift, and then being told your employer isn’t going to pay you for those hours. Most people would understandably be upset because they have given their time and expected to be paid for it. When a client cancels at the last minute and that appointment can’t be filled, the result is very similar—I lose the income I had reserved that time to earn.

Cancellation fees are not about being unfair or making money from missed appointments. They are there to protect small businesses from losing income due to appointments that cannot be rebooked at short notice.

I completely understand that genuine emergencies and unexpected situations happen, but I ask that my cancellation policy is respected in the same way you would expect your employer to respect your time and pay you for your work.
