When we first started, our priority wasn’t aggressive treatments—it was repairing the skin barrier, reducing inflammation, and calming active breakouts. Treating acne without a healthy skin barrier often leads to more irritation and slower results.

Now that the breakouts are under control and the skin is much healthier, we’ve been able to introduce microneedling to target post-inflammatory erythema (PIE)—the red marks left behind after acne heals.

💡 A common misconception: Those red marks are active acne. They’re not. They’re tiny damaged blood vessels left behind after inflammation, and they need a different treatment approach than acne itself.

✨ Why is my skin red after microneedling? ✨

That post-treatment redness is called erythema — a completely normal response following microneedling. As the tiny microchannels are created in the skin, your body increases blood flow to the area to kick-start the healing process and stimulate collagen production.

Erythema typically appears as mild to moderate redness, similar to a sunburn, and can last anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days depending on the treatment depth and your skin’s sensitivity.

This temporary redness is often a sign that your skin is actively repairing and renewing itself. During this time, keep your skin hydrated, avoid excessive heat and sun exposure, and follow your aftercare instructions carefully.
