Ellooo!! So this is hopefully going to be a new addition to the page.. “Sip & Debrief” - I sit and chat to you all in stories a lot so figured why not bring it permanently to the grid. Just a little moment of peace where I can tell you about the day/what I’m doing or going to be doing.

I’ll tell ya a secret.. I’ve actually filmed like 8 of these but always ran out of time to edit & post then the day disappears and they become redundant. So holding myself accountable & actually posting one today 👏🏼👏🏼

Can’t wait to build a little community here 🖤

So you want to know what the difference between a Balayage & Highlights are?!

Well let’s get into it.. slide along and you will come out the end clear on the differences 👏🏼

Balayage:

Balayage is actually a technique not a look, but somehow it got lost in translation and now clients have claimed it as a whole look.

So what actually is it, balayage is where colour is swept across the surface of the hair, this means the sweeping gives it a blended, softer & less structured look.

This means it can mimic hair that is lightened naturally in the sun.

Highlights:

Highlights are usually a traditional foil application. The entire woven/sliced section will be saturated from root to tip, because of this it gives a more uniform outcome.

Balayage:

Due to the nature of how a balayage is applied, and the roots not typically being coloured it means the maintenance is very low!

Balayage doesn’t give off harsh regrowth lines so you could go a few months between appointments.

Depending on the colour you could get your balayage done twice a year and come for toner top ups in between. That’s one way to save money 😜

Highlights:

Because highlights usually start at the root, there will be a more visible line of regrowth. This means that this service has a higher maintenance rate.

Touch ups for highlights can vary depending on your natural hair colour, the overall look and honestly how much you can handle seeing the regrowth.

(Some of my clients don’t mind a regrowth but others it drives them crazy)

Typically the recommended length between appointments is 6-8 weeks.

Balayage AND Highlights.

Balayage & Highlights: The best of both.

Yep that’s right.. I was getting to the good bit.

A lot of stylists do combine both techniques depending on your desired outcome.

I’ll be honest, I always incorporate some sort of teasylight or babylight when I’m doing a balayage - it doesn’t feel right without it. Unless my client is dead set on not having the top section broken up then I won’t.

Tip outs are often done during highlighting services as well - which will refresh the mid lengths & ends that don’t get included in the foil.

Do you know what?! I bloody love hairdressing! My love leans towards colouring as we all know BUT..

Hairstylists ARE artists. The things that we create with our minds & hands are pretty insane!

I love that I get to call this my job. AI could never!

Was this hair colour inspired by The Gorillaz?! Maybe, Maybe not.. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Swipe for inspo & for the before. I think it’s a pretty good transformation. But maybe I’m bias 😂

A colour this bright without using lightener?! Yep! That’s right!..

Every now and again we get lucky and get a client in with the most gorgeous head of virgin hair! A unicorn if you will! 👏🏼

This means that sometimes we don’t need to immediately reach for lightener.

This hidden panel was created with a gorgeously pigmented High Lift!

That dreaded moment.. we all have had a platinum blonde client ask to go dark right?!

Well guess what, sometimes I am the hairstylist that lets you 😂 Swipe for the before —>

Honestly I probably wouldn’t have done this if the Danger Jones gloss toners didn’t exist. But I also love Eleanor & her wish is my command.

K18 & Yap. Everyone needs K18 Airwash in their haircare kit! Honestly one of my top 5 products! I would absolutely class it as an essential.

Perfect for when you don’t have time to wash your hair, when you don’t want to wash your hair.. or if you are like me it’s perfect for when you’ve ran out of shampoo 🤣

I have learnt my lesson, and can honestly say I’ll never be removing shampoo from the salon again 🤣☠️

Special mention to Danger Jones for creating amazing hair colour.

An additional special mention to - the other self employed baddie I was talking about.
