VTCT vs CPD… do you know the difference? 👀

When choosing where to have laser hair removal, it’s easy to focus on the machine, the price or the before & afters but the training behind the person operating the laser matters too.

VTCT Level 4 involves structured learning, practical training and assessment, covering areas such as laser principles, skin and hair assessment, contraindications, treatment planning and safe use of treatment parameters.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development and can be a great way for practitioners to develop and refresh their skills but CPD courses can vary considerably and aren’t automatically equivalent to a regulated Level 4 laser qualification.

And qualifications are only part of it. Knowledge + experience + the ability to personalise your settings all play a part in achieving safe, effective results. ✨

Don’t be afraid to ask your laser practitioner about their qualifications, training and experience — it’s your skin. 🤍

It’s not just about turning up for your appointment — what happens between your sessions matters too.

From getting the timing of your appointments right and exfoliating once the hairs begin to shed, to choosing the right laser and a properly trained practitioner… there are so many things that can make a difference to your laser journey.

And one of the biggest? Communication. 💬
Letting your practitioner know how your hair has responded after each session allows your treatment to be adjusted where appropriate, rather than wasting sessions using settings that may no longer be giving you the best response.

MYTH: “I NEED TO GROW MY HAIR OUT BEFORE LASER.” ❌

Absolutely not! 😂 In fact, it’s the opposite.

For laser hair removal, you’ll normally be asked to shave the treatment area before your appointment. We don’t need long hair sitting above the skin — we’re targeting the hair follicle beneath it. ✨

And this is one of my favourite things about laser…

No awkward growing-out stage between appointments. 👏

During your course, you can shave when needed — but you’ll usually start noticing you’re reaching for that razor less and less as your regrowth becomes slower, finer and more patchy. 🤍
