Got to spend some time with Nick Parkes and Mags on Sunday at the Swim England masters open water nationals.

Nick is attempting to be the first cardiac arrest survivor to swim Loch Ness. It’s a privilege to have been asked to support him medically, with his preparation and on the day to make sure he’s safe and we’ve minimised the risks.

He’s raising money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Sudden Cardiac Arrest UK

Congratulations to Alison Hadfield who completed Jersey 🇯🇪 to France 🇫🇷 this week!

I’m so pleased the weather finally allowed her to set off, having been disappointed twice last year. It’s so difficult to train for a swim, be ready and then for the elements to let you down. Another part of long distance open water swimming that is not in our control.

MASSIVE shout out to WildJemma who set off yesterday to swim from the Isle of Man to England. A swim that no one has ever done before.

She was making incredible progress, then got stung by the Lionsmane jellyfish far too many times. Her body reacted and it wasn’t safe medically for her to continue. As the open water swimming community knows, there are too many aspects of these swims outside of our control.

We are all absolutely gutted for you. As you’ve said yourself, “somewhere will be somebody inspired to try, because of me” and that’s why I’m sharing your story.

What a day to be a channel swimmer! The conditions were absolutely perfect for some of the Streamline Medicals swimmers.

A huge congratulations go to Karen Reid who conquered the English Channel and put those demons to bed and to Hannah Gillespie who took on the mighty North Channel and made it look easy!

Good luck to WildJemma who might be setting off this evening to swim between the Isle of Man and Ireland, which has never been done before. We are all behind you and hope the sea and weather gods are kind.

A week later I was at the World Aquatics masters championships in Japan, talking with Catherine Munro about Nick’s cardiac arrest, when we noticed that someone had collapsed. We both went over and did CPR and that person also survived. They went on to swim again too and also subsequently broke masters world records! Immediate and effective CPR really does save lives.

My Bristol Channel swim is looming! I’m swimming from England to Wales, the Ilfracombe to Swansea route. It’s longer than the English Channel.

I’m not feeling confident, as my training has not gone as planned this year, but I am going to have a go and know I’ve got an amazing pilot Tom Chapman Epic Swim co and crew support David Clamp

.altoft got me up at an ungodly hour this morning to film open water shots at Pickmere Lake. We had very atmospheric conditions so can’t wait to see what he puts together.
