👋 Hello everyone, I’m PC 2790 Jez Brotherton. I’ve been a Police Officer for 16 years, and although I’ve only recently joined the team, I already feel incredibly welcome here.

I joined policing because I’m a strong believer in equality and justice. I’ve always wanted to help and protect others, especially those who may not be able to help themselves. That belief still drives me every single day. Before becoming an officer, I worked in the police control room taking 999 calls and dispatching officers, an excellent introduction to policing. During my service I’ve also worked in Vetting and the Volume Crime Team, alongside my main role in response policing, attending emergencies and dealing with incidents as they happen. Moving into neighbourhood policing has been a refreshing change. Instead of quick fixes, I’m now focused on long-term solutions, preventing problems before they escalate and putting the right support in place for vulnerable people. It’s hugely rewarding to see the difference that approach can make.

My favourite thing about this area? The people. Absolutely. The community here is welcoming, inclusive and proud and I’m very proud to now be part of it 🤝

I genuinely enjoy helping with anything and everything, from offering a few reassuring words to managing complex investigations with partner agencies. If it affects you or our community, I’ll grab it with both hands.

When you see me out on patrol, I hope you feel reassured. Please approach me if I’m on foot, or flag me down if I’m driving. Talk to me about anything, even if it’s not strictly a policing matter. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll likely know someone who does.

If you’re nervous about speaking to an officer, please don’t be. I’m patient, approachable, and I’m at my best when helping people who are scared or anxious. I was a Domestic Abuse Champion during my time on response, and supporting those who are hurt or afraid is something I care deeply about. If you come and speak to me, you’ll be met with a sympathetic ear and someone who will give you their time willingly. I’m here for you.

Once we’ve made contact, we’ll provide you with our details and I’m equally happy to speak by phone or video call if that’s easier.

A little about me outside of work:
☕ Coffee in the morning – otherwise builder’s tea
📚 I love reading and studying World War One and World War Two
🎨 I unwind by building and painting models (I’m a bit of a geek!)
🐾 I have a German Shepherd cross Husky and an Alaskan Malamute – both bonkers working dogs who make sure I stay fit whatever the weather

One thing I’d like you to know about me: I’ve been through a lot personally and come out the other side. So if you need someone to talk to, you’ll find a compassionate, experienced and understanding listener in me.

As part of the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee uplift, new officers have joined teams across Dorset.
