Your gel nails hate going on holiday. You love going on holiday. So here’s three REALISTIC retention tips for whilst you’re away!!

SPF and gel nails don’t mix. It causes lifting, can cause yellowing to top coats and pastel colours… but we also don’t want skin damage and premature aging so what’s a gal to do???

My fave life hack is to get yourself a spray spf instead, the clear aerosol ones you don’t have to rub in. Minimal interaction with your nails = much better retention!

Chlorine and salt water will dry your nails out. That’s a fact. The official advice is to keep hands out of the water as much as possible but let’s be honest that’s just notttttt realistic especially if you’re a water baby or have little ones who want to play!!

Pack a cuticle oil, use it often. It helps to combat some of the drying impact which = better retention

Holidays include a SURPRISING amount of manual labour for your hands. Picking open ice lolly packets, messing with fiddly zips on your summer clothes, lifting suitcases.

Aside from making your travel buddy your personal slave (you have my full permission to do this and blame me though just fyi), there’s not much you can do about the impact of using your nails as tools so what I recommend is going slightly shorter than usual before your trip so that you’re less likely to catch your set on something by accident!

Appreciate I’ve made it sound like holidays and fresh nails are a terrible combo but let’s be honest NOTHING AT ALL is better than the feeling of looking down at your hand holding a cold cocktail on a hot beach, blue sky, a good book in hand and feeling warmth on your skin.

Okay two things from this week: 1. Most of us haven’t worn ski boots before (the people who have INSTANTLY voted for heels and tbh that solidifies my opinion that skiing would not be for me 😂) and 2. It was too hot for us to care about drawing straight lines so don’t judge these wobbly lil tally marks
