The major mistake I was making repeatedly while applying for jobs was using the same supporting information I wrote for all the jobs πŸ™ƒ

I had a standard supporting information I wrote and I was using it for all the applications πŸ™ƒ

Then I came across a YouTube video while trying to figure things out. The video explained in details how to apply for jobs considering the job description, person specification (essential and desirable criteria). This has to be done differently for each jobs as a supporting information.

Then I understood and started all over again. Instead of doing more than 10 applications a day as I used to do, I started doing my applications strategically which takes more time, some days I do 2 or 3 good applications πŸ‘

In a matter of days, I started receiving interview invites and that was itπŸ’ƒ

With God's help, I got a job offer at my 2nd interview πŸ™

Lessons:
Don't be scared to start all over again.
Be opened to learning
Don't let failure discourage you

After I got registered, another season started.
Season of applying for jobs.

I was literally sleeping and waking on Trac jobs and NHS jobs for dietitian roles.

I kept getting unfortunately emails after lot of applications πŸ˜’
Some days I applied for more than 10 jobs, hoping to be shortlisted for interviews, all to no avail.

Unknown to me, I was making a mistake which I later found out after watching a YouTube video on how to Apply for NHS jobs.

Details in the next post πŸ€”

How long did it take to be registered as a dietitian in the UK πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ πŸ€”

I g*thered all my supporting documents with my completed application form. It took me months to complete this due to working full-time (university was on holiday), I needed some documents from Nigeria which my friends were helping me sort out.
It was really alot at that time but I thank God, I was able to finish this with sleepless nights sometimes πŸ™Œ

I paid my scrutiny fee which was roughly Β£600, then waiting started and I continuously checked my email for any update regarding my application πŸ€”

The application form, course information form (from my university in Nigeria), recommendation letter from employer and practising license from my professional body in Nigeria were all reviewed by the assessor assigned to my documents.

Surprisingly my professional body was the first to respond, followed by employer and lastly my University (the assessor specifically requested for a format of documentation from my university)...after some back and forth, this was sorted.

Overall, my waiting time was 3 months and then my application was approved and I was asked to proceed to make payment for registration fee which I did and the same day my registration number was sent to the glory of God.

Lessons:
Waiting time may seem long, but God g*t you.
Keep pushing, better days are ahead πŸ’ͺ

Does this resonates with you πŸ€”

Appreciation post 2

So daddy Jacob Kehinde and I went to Postgraduate school, as usual he is well known and loved by everyone there.
He kept saying "just follow me". We entered one of the offices and he explained to them that I applied for admission and have not received any update.

I was asked to check a big book which I carefully checked and somehow, it was discovered that I have been offered admission and the Staffs apologized because I haven't received any update 😳

I was so so grateful for this and same with my parents. That was how I resigned my teaching job in Osun State to start a new life as Masters degree student in University of Ibadan, a journey that lasted roughly 2 years.

Daddy, I really appreciate all that you did and I do not take this for granted. If not for God and you, I won't even know I was offered admission, God bless you abundantly sir πŸ™

Lesson:
God specifically position some people in your life for different seasons, be grateful for the gift of themπŸ™

I want to take time and appreciate Jacob Kehinde, daddy is a professor of religious studies at the University of Ibadan (UI). If I can remember, he had his inaugural lecture some years ago which I attended.

This is the story, upon completion of my NYSC in 2009, I applied for my Masters degree in UI. My younger sister also graduated from secondary school in 2009 and was awaiting admission to UI.

Alongside, I got a teaching job in a private school and started teaching while waiting for UI admission. My sister's admission was successful but I didn't hear anything for mine.

In January 2010, my parents and I took my sister's stuffs to her in school as she has now secured hostel accommodation (she was living with one of our family prior to this).

Then we visited Professor in his office because he has been very nice over the years and she is aware that my sister has been offered admission in UIπŸ‘

He cheerfully welcomed us, he is very friendly, with good sense of humour πŸ˜„
Then, my dad mentioned that I applied for Masters as well but we haven't heard any updates and school has resumed for people that were offered admission.

He stood up from his table immediately and as young as I am he was addressing me with so much respect πŸ˜ƒ. He said 'sister, let's go to postgraduate school to see what's going on'

See what happens next....

Part 3: The Business side of me during NYSC

This is the concluding part of this story:

So few days later, I overheard some corpers discussing that Staffs of the Local Government doesn't pay when they buy things from people πŸ€”
Even with that comment, I still had peace within me✌️

By the end of the month, one of the Staffs called me that they have been paid their salary and she has helped me collect my money from the other Staffs that bought the fabrics from me and that I should come and collect my money πŸ’°

The Business continued to blossom throughout the during of my service year. A few fabrics I had left (about 7-10), a batch B corper walked up to me and said she wanted to continue with the business. So, I sold the remaining fabrics to her at retail price and with this I was able to save some money during my service year.

Lessons:
Always obey God's leading no matter what.
God will always come through when he's the one directing you.

Part 2: The Business side of me during NYSC

My fabric Business thrived, fellow corners bought from me and Staffs of my PPA (Place of Primary Assignment).
I ordered for another set (more fabric than what I started with) and this was waybill to me.

I continued selling but I noticed I still having many unsold ones after some weeks. I was a bit bothered on how to sell them I felt a conviction within me to take the fabrics to the Local government council close to the corper's Lodge where I live. I didn't know anyone there, hence I was initially reluctant but I obeyed and went there.

Upon my arrival to the LG, I saw 2 Staffs sitting under a tree, I greeted them in the little Hausa language I understood πŸ˜€.
They were happy that I could communicate in their language being a corper. I introduced myself and purpose of coming, then I started showing them the fabrics, they really liked it and also called another colleague of theirs to come and see.

They bought all the fabrics I took there. However, as a salary earner, they promised to pay by month end. I was a bit scared because that was my first time of meeting them (However, I had peace within me).

They gave me their phone number and promise to call me on pay day πŸ˜’

Did they fulfill their promise?
Did I regret selling to them?
What did I learnt from this?

The Business side of me during my NYSC

During my NYSC in 2008/2009 in Pankshin, Plateau State, corper monthly allowance was ₦9,775. Some corper colleagues were still collecting money from their parents but I decided to make do with the allowance and thought of what else to do.

I graduated from UNAAB now FUNNAB in Abeokuta and the town is known historically for producing Adire/Kampala fabric, this inspired me to venture into the business of selling Adire fabrics.

I served in a secondary school in Plateau state, so when School was on holiday, I travelled to Abeokuta to buy the fabrics, visited my family in Osun State to spend sometime before returning to my place of service.

Did the business thrive?
Did I enjoyed doing the business πŸ€”
Watch out for the next post πŸ˜‰
