Let’s clear up the confusion around the TPO ban… 💅

There have been a lot of headlines recently suggesting that the TPO ban will have a huge impact on nail salons, but the reality is much less dramatic.

TPO is a photoinitiator (a curing agent) used in some gel products. It helps the gel cure properly under a UV/LED lamp, which is why some nail techs have noticed slight differences in the performance and retention of newer formulas.

So why has it been removed?

The cosmetic industry has updated its regulations following safety assessments. Research found that TPO showed reproductive effects in animal studies at certain exposure levels, leading regulators to remove it from cosmetic products as a precaution. It’s worth remembering that gel products are not designed to be ingested or consumed, but cosmetic regulations are often updated to reflect the latest safety data and maintain high standards.

The important thing to know is this:

✨ Reputable professional brands have already reformulated their products or are in the process of doing so to comply with the regulations.
