What are skin tags and why do they appear? 🤔

Skin tags are one of the most common benign (non-cancerous) skin growths we see. They are small, soft pieces of skin that often develop in areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing, such as:

✔ Neck
✔ Underarms
✔ Eyelids
✔ Under the breasts
✔ Groin area

Although they can appear at any age, skin tags become more common as we get older. They are also more likely to develop in people who have experienced weight changes, pregnancy, or conditions that increase skin friction.

Why do they form?
Skin tags are thought to develop when collagen fibres and blood vessels become trapped within thicker areas of skin. Friction is believed to play a significant role, which is why they often appear in skin folds and areas where clothing regularly rubs.

The good news?
Skin tags are completely harmless and don't usually require treatment unless they become irritated, catch on jewellery or clothing, affect your confidence, or simply become a nuisance.

The even better news is that they can usually be removed very quickly and easily.
